The 8th annual Long Beach Zombie Fest will be held this year October 23rd through 25th, at the Rainbow Lagoon in Long Beach. The zombies are coming and you don’t want to miss them! Unprecedented in the world of zombie walks, The Long Beach Zombie Fest runs for 3 zombie-filled days! Join the hordes of rotting revelers for this Friday through Sunday event of undead music, film, and horror for all ages. Having gone there a few years ago when it was an amazing one day party- I can’t even imagine how much zombie fun will be packed in this 3 day event. Over the weekend there is something for every age and horror taste: outdoor screenings of classic zombie movies, a ‘Thriller’ workshop hosted by the amazing Michael Jackson impersonator and tribute artist REMJ, carnival games, horror exhibitors/vendors, kid-friendly activities, a Freakshow and Freakshow Wrestling, a horror art walk, and of course the reason this all began: the infamous Long Beach Zombie Walk. They are adding new things everyday- so you have to come out and see what’s new this year. Everyone is invited to wear a costume. Of course rotted looking zombie fashion is what most people will choose, so try to wear your zombie best, but that being said many other types of cosplay have been spotted in years past and it is definitely encouraged too. You could even mash up your favorite cosplay with a zombie twist. Or if you just want to be a plain old human that’s ok, zombies gotta eat too!
Music is a huge part of this festival. There will be dancing and lots of it! In 2014 the band I’ve heard described as one of the weirdest ever; Mac Sabbath, performed on Sunday and their video went viral. If you’ve never seen them, go check out this crazy McDonald’s themed Black Sabbath cover band on You Tube. New this year is Operella Night on Friday. Bad Bunny, Zombie Masquerade Ball and Something Strange: A new music form and genre spearheaded and organized by Long Beach garage bands…singing, characters, costumes, music and words – creating its own mini-opera. There will be wonderful music every night to keep you zombies thrilling on the dance floor!
Love Contests? Well then you will be a happy zombie! There are contests every day of the festival. Friday is pumpkin carving at 9pm, Saturday pumpkin carving at 6:30pm and costume contest at 8pm, Sunday costume contest at 5pm and pumpkin carving at 5:30pm. There is a possibility of a brain eating contest that sounds fun and messy, and a zombie fashion show where the special effects artists battle it out to see who is the best (or grossest) whatever the case may be. Contest prizes include trophies, drink tickets, tickets to ‘Trapped in a room with a Zombie’, tickets to ‘Motel 6 Feet Under’, zombie make-overs, and much more.
Wanna be a zombie, but don’t know how? Get zombified at The Long Beach Zombie Walk! They will have talented SPFX make-up artists on hand to unleash your undead beauty! Make-up artists charge their own fees, which are tiered depending upon your desired level of grotesque intensity – prices vary! If brains aren’t your food of choice, there will be a food court with festival food and tasty treats for hungry ghouls and gals, and adult beverages.
Don your gruesomest apparel and make-up. Search deep and find that inner zombie. See you at the Rainbow Lagoon in Long Beach: Dead or Alive!
