On Sunday night, August 23, 2015 presented the twenty-eighth annual SummerSlam pay pre view. The show as held in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Here are the results.
The show opened with special guest host Jon Stewart in the ring and hyping up the crowd. He said he was angry about Brock Lesnar and breaking The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Streak, and wanted to interview him in the ring. Stewart then called out Mick Foley to the ring to help him with the supposed interview. Foley admitted he was terrified of Lesnar and said the famous Hell in a Cell against Undertaker was over 17 years ago. The segment ended abruptly.
They then showed a great video package hyping up tonight’s event.
In the opening match, Sheamus pinned Randy Orton after hitting two Brogue Kicks.
In a Fatal 4 Way Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championships, The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E) (with Xavier Woods) defeated The Lucha Dragons (Kalisto & Sin Cara), Los Matadores (Diego & Fernando) (with El Torito) and reigning Champions The Prime Time Players (Titus O’Neil & Darren Young) to win the Championships. O’Neil hit Fernando with Clash of the Titus after a Tower of Doom spot, but Kingston made a blind tag into the ring and tossed O’Neil out of the ring to get the pinfall on Fernando.
Backstage, Jon Stewart and his son get an autograph from Stephen Amell when a silhouette looking like The Undertaker walked by in a cloud of smoke.
Dolph Ziggler (with Lana) went to a double count out with Rusev (with Summer Rae). Post-match, Ziggler and Rusev brawled, which led to a brawl between Summer and Lana.
They then aired a comic booked themed video package highlighting the rivalry between Stephen Amell and Stardust that somehow saw Neville and Barrett get included as well.
Neville & Stephen Amell beat “The Prink of Dark Matter” Stardust in “The Cosmic King” Wade Barrett in a tag team match. Neville pinned Barrett after hitting the Red Arrow. Amell (star of TV’s Arrow television show) looked great in his role and could tell it was obvious he is a true pro wrestling fan.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Ryback between The Miz and The Big Show in a triple threat match to retain the Championship. Show hit Miz with a KO Punch, but Ryback clotheslined Show out of the ring and took the pinfall for himself.
Backstage, Jon Stewart went to Lesnar’s locker room to confront him about ending The Undertaker’s Streak at WrestleMania XXX. Paul Heyman answered the locker room door and rebuffed Stewart and mocked him.
Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns beat Luke Harper & Bray Wyatt. Reigns pinned Wyatt after hitting a spear.
They aired a video package for the upcoming Title for Title match between John Cena and Seth Rollins.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins pinned WWE United States Champion John Cena to win the United States Title. Near the match’s end, Cena picked up Rollins and inadvertently knocked out the referee. John Stewart then ran into the ring brandishing a steel chair. He looked like he would attack Rollins but instead hit Cena with the chair. Rollins then hit Cena with a Pedigree onto the chair and got the pinfall as the referee came back to.
They then cut to the pre-show panel of Renee Young, Byron Saxton, Booker T and Corey Graves to talk about tonight’s happenings so far.
They then aired a video package about the recent Divas Revolution.
Paige, Charlotte & Becky Lynch won a triple threat elimination tag team match against WW Divas Champion Nikki Bella, Brie Bella & Alicia Fox and Naomi, Sasha Banks & Tamina.
– Nikki Bella pinned Tamina.
– Lynch pinned Brie after hitting a pumphandle chokeslam.
Kevin Steen pinned Cesaro after hitting a Pop-Up Powerbomb.
They then aired a great video package highlighting The Undertaker-Brock Lesnar feud.
The Undertaker made Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) pass out to Hell’s Gate. Towards the end of the match, Lensar locked Undertaker in the Kimura Lock while Taker rolled Lesnar to his back looking for a pin. While referee Charles Robinson looked for the pinfall the timekeeper rang the bell. Robinson gave the timekeeper hell for the gaffe and restarted the match. While Robinson was distracted Taker low blowed Lesnar and locked him in Hell’s Gate again. Lesnar gave him the middle finger and then passed out, and Robinson declared Undertaker the winner. Replays showed that Undertaker did tap out while locked in the Kimura but the referee didn’t see it. Post-match, Heyman rang the bell profusely and showed the replay and then declared Lesnar the rightful winner as his music played.
