While Night of Champions had a few memorable moments with some first-time champions being crowned in Charlotte Flair and Kevin Owens, both factored little into a lukewarm episode of RAW this week. Don’t let the large card fool you either- most of the matches had little storyline development and did little to build anything for Hell in a Cell.
In the end, while there were a lot of things going on, especially with Kane factoring into things and the Big Show declaring war on Brock Lesnar, there’s wasn’t anything really cool enough to get you excited for next week.
The Lucha Dragons: Sin Cara and Kalisto and Adrian Neville vs. The Ascension: Viktor and Konnor and Stardust: Sin Cara was in the match for the majority of the contest, thanks to quick tags and strikes from Stardust and The Ascension. Once Neville was tagged in he tried to change his team’s fortunes, but it wasn’t until Kalisto was tagged in that the faces really thrived. After Neville and Sin Chara cleared the ring, Kalisto beat Viktor with the Ultimo Dragon Flipping Reverse DDT.
Ryback vs. Bo Dallas: Ryback dominated, but Dallas got in a few more strikes than anyone expected. However after the Gorilla Press and Spinebuster, Ryback hit the Meathook Clothesline and the Shellshocked for the win. After the match, Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens, who was ringside, attacked Ryback, but “The Big Guy” handled himself well.
Divas Champion Charlotte Flair w/Becky Lynch vs. Brie Bella w/Nikki Bella and Alicia Fox: After Paige turned her back on her, Flair was forced to defend her title. Things didn’t go as planned for the new champion early on as Brie worked on Flair’s leg, but Flair hit moves when she had to in order to stay in the match. After a Spear and the Figure-Eight, Flair got the win.
Sheamus vs. Mark Henry: Sheamus got the win with the Brogue Kick in spite of a surge from Henry. After the match, Sheamus announced that it’s only a matter of time until he becomes the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Dolph Ziggler and The Dudley Boys: Bully Ray and Devon vs. Rusev w/Summer Rae and WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day: Big E. Langston and Kofi Kingston w/Xavier Woods: Ziggler was in this match for virtually the entire contest as New Day and Rusev worked well together and cut off the ring. Once Bully Ray was tagged in he hit the Sideslip, a Urinage Suplex and then tagged in Devon, who began to work on Rusev. After Ziggler hit the What’s Upon Rusev, Ziggler took out Woods with the Super Kick, but Rusev got the win with a Super Kick of his own.
Natalya Neidhart vs. Naomi w/Tamina and Sasha Banks: Neidhart had the match in hand, but interference from Tamina and Banks allowed Naomi to hit the Rear View for the win.
The Big Show vs. Cesaro: The Swiss Superman was strong as ever, but a Knockout Punch gave Show the win.
United States Champion John Cena vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins: Not as good as their last matchup, but another solid match as Cena bounced back from a Rollins Frog Splash with the Attitude Adjustment for the win. After the match, Corporate Kane reminded Rollins there are plenty of people who want a shot at his title, before Demon Kane came through the ring and took him under the ring to end the show.
