Those who watched last night’s WWE Monday Night Raw saw John Cena battered and bloody in his match against World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. This was no work, however, as Cena legitimately gushed blood after suffering a brutal knee to the face, breaking his nose instantly. Today the WWE confirmed the obvious on their website, with a few words on the injury from physician Dr. Steve Daquino.
“As you can see on television tonight, John suffered from a nasal fraction,” Daquino said. “He’s got quite a bit of displacement, so we sent him over to the local emergency room so he can be evaluated by the ears, nose and throat doctor who’s on call tonight and see what can be done to properly repair it.”
The match was stopped numerous times so that Cena could get assistance from the ringside doctors, and both wrestlers were noticeably less aggressive in completing the match. However, Cena toughed it out and put on a finish worthy of the show’s main event, with the crowd showing their appreciation for his efforts. What remains unclear is how much, if any, time Cena will lose due to this injury. WWE had been building to a possible World Title match between Cena and Rollins at the SummerSlam PPV next month.
