The Holy Bible gives facts in the book of Genesis on the worldwide flood of Noah’s day. The worldwide flood was a little over a year in duration after it started in Genesis 7:11. The flood ended in Genesis 8:13-14. A hundred and twenty years prior to the worldwide flood God had Noah start building the Ark. Noah was about 480 years old when he started the Ark (Genesis 6:3). Noah was five hundred years old when be begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth (Genesis 5:32). God said unto Noah that He wanted him to build an Ark because He was going to send a judgment, a flood of waters to destroy all flesh except for the ones on the Ark. “And, behold, I even I do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven and everything that is in the earth shall die.” (Genesis 6:17).
God commanded Noah to build an Ark out of gopher wood with rooms in it, and pitch it within and without with pitch. Noah was to make it 300 cubits (450 feet long), fifty cubits (75 feet wide), and 30 cubits (45 feet high). A small window for Noah to look out and to send a raven and a dove through (Genesis 6:16), (Genesis 8:6-11). There was a door set in the side of the Ark with 3 decks within (Genesis 6:16). The Bible says, “Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shall pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shall make it of :The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits and the height of thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above, and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.” (Genesis 6:14-16)
The flood itself covered the whole earth above the highest hills and fifteen cubits (22.5 feet) above the highest pre-flood mountains at the time. (Genesis 7:17-20). ” And the flood was forty days upon the earth and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail and the mountains were covered.” (Genesis 7:17-20).
Getting back to the Ark itself. There was plenty of room on the Ark. The Ark was the equivalent volume of 522 railroad livestock cars each of which can hold 240 sheep. Assuming that the average size of the animal on the Ark was small;er than a sheep. It is easy to visualize the Ark having space for approximately 16,000 animals that needed to represent the various created kinds, with plenty of room left over for supplies. God told Noah that He will bring pairs of each created “kind” (or basic type) of land-dwelling, air breathing animals, and fowls (birds) on to the Ark. (Genesis 7:2,3,8,22). The Ark at the end of the flood landed on the “mountains of Ararat.” (Genesis 8:4) ” And the ark rested in seventh month, on the the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.” (Genesis 8:4)
The Scripture says, “mountains of Ararat”, Actually there are two two mountains of Ararat. Greater and Lesser Mount Ararat. Between the two mountains there is a connection between them, a saddle shape connection, where the Ark could of landed. The Bible says “mountains” not “mountain”. So the Ark could of landed anywhere between these two mountains.
The Biblical descriptions of the worldwide flood indicates a tremendous complex of events occurring during the little over a year long flood. There was worldwide torrential rains, tremendous erosion, worldwide tectonic and volcanic upheavals, violent windstorms, gigantic waves and tsunamis, etc., as well as great destruction of all forms of life, followed by extensive burials in great “graveyards” of future fossils that man is unearthing today.
