Rap group Migos has launched a limited edition capsule line (called “World Wide Rich”) of clothing together with WorldStarHipHop through the urban lifestyle retailer, Footaction. The line includes one crew neck tee, one long sleeve tee, one hoodie, two hats and one pair of joggers. These selections are only available in 100 Footaction stores throughout the country and is available at the Footaction store at Miami International Mall on 107th avenue and NW 12th street. The designs scream of the deep south with clouds resembling the blue skies when the weather is nice in the South, roses for the sweet smells of the flowers when they are in bloom in spring and summer and paisley patterns to show the difference between the rust belt of the northern cities and the sun belt (Down South). Anyone who likes the group and is a fan of trap music will enjoy the clothes and reppin the Young Rich nation graphic label that is present on all of the clothes. On the hoodie, there is a skull with crossed arms holding up dollar bills in both hands which is representative of the lifestyle in “The Trap” where to get anywhere, one needs to hustle with the knowing that every day might be one’s “last day”. The lifestyle follows similarities to the gangster lifestyle in South Los Angeles where, the criminal lifestyle isn’t promoted, but the prospects of a happy healthy life and the acceptance to embrace one’s environment and live life to the fullest. Other places or periods of history where this approach to life was evident was in the Old West and during the Golden era of the Italian mafia.
Migos together with WorldStarHipHop, the leading online destination for entertainment programming including original content, editorial programming and user-submitted content is a great partnership. WorldStar has a global appeal and has also launched other off-site brand extensions such as WorldStar clothing, an upcoming series with the Adult Swim channel, as well as WorldStar Films, which currently has a film in development with Paramount Pictures. The World Wide Rich line brings to the forefront Atlanta and the Deep South, which is a special region of the country compared with Los Angeles, New York or Chicago because of trap music. The South isn’t only known for its savory comfort food dishes and difficult history with slavery and segregation. Trap music artists like Migos, Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross have shown that the current generation wishes to improve their station in life and are doing it through creative expression and music. They are speaking to the world and catching the ear of many who are in “The Trap”, i.e., the same predicament but may not have the same avenue saying that dressing the part is as important as playing the part. Through this, a style is created and the Migos line will be embraced and bought by many who can identify with this angle. Trap music’s influence is growing into the Electronic Dance music genre with many producers crossing over and reaching more fans.
