Ready for another spotlight on Women in Entertainment? This week we focus on Circe Link, muse, musician, merrymaker, songwriter, lyricist, and connector of old and new.
The music of Link will entice, delight and treat you with a sound Link says comes from her “cosmic radio station”. A native of Los Angeles, Link was a self-taught artist before waking up one day with a song in her head from a dream she had. Although she had never before written a song, three songs were birthed that day as Link discovered a new artistic path. Link originally dubbed her musical style “Cowboy Jazz: but discovered the description did not adequately cover her eclectic style.
Her musical style and influences range from Bob Wills to David Bowie and from Patti Page to Patty Smith or, as Link puts it, “from Abba to Zappa and everything in between.” Because of this broad diversity, she has created a collection of songs that are at instantly charming and familiar, while still surprising and unique, resulting in her melodies getting stuck in her listeners’ head for days.
What inspires Link? “I am inspired by my muse as an artist, not with the intent to be a celebrity or commodity maker, but a true artist. If one is lucky enough to have the creative voice whisper in your ear, no matter what time at day, or late late at night it’s your obligation to pay attention, and capture that impulse and honor the gift it is. Artists give voice to those who cannot speak the language of the soul.”
Link currently has eight records and over 70 songs in her catalog, and countless critical acclaim for her music. Among the many accolades she has earned, Link was designated as both an Amoeba Records Homegrown Artist and a Clear Channel “Emerging Artist pick and held the #1 spot in Jazz on Garageband.com for over two years. Her music is also highly revered by both television and motion picture music supervisors, resulting in numerous placements including Blades of Glory and The Hills Have Eyes.
Although she primarily plays close to home, Link and her musical partner, Christian Nesmith completed a successful tour in Japan, and have recently toured as a part of the Monkees, In case you didn’t make the connection, Christian is the son of Monkee legend Michael Nesmith.
What are her future plans? “Currently my partner, Christian Nesmith and I are working on new music, music vidoes, short films, and our online streaming shows [on ConcertWindow.com]!”
