For the third time in three months, a woman has tossed her baby from a window onto the streets below, killing her infant child. In this latest incident, the woman screamed “praise the Lord” and “hallelujah” before letting her six-month-old baby girl fall. She has been arrested and charged with murder.
Writes The Associated Press on Oct. 16: “The New York Police Department said a 27-year-old woman believed to be the infant’s mother was in the Bronx apartment with four children at the time. The three other children — a 10-year-old boy, an 8-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl — were taken to a hospital but were not injured, police said.”
The mother was identified as Tenisha Fearon, 27, who lives on the sixth floor at an apartment building on Tiebout Ave. near E. 182nd St. in Fordham. Her daughter, Junilah Lawrence, lay broken on the sidewalk below, her shoe and headband at her side. She was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and pronounced dead approximately one hour later.
According to police, they encountered a ritualistic scene – Fearon, naked in the apartment, screaming out both praises and condemnations to witnesses below who were pleading with her not to let her baby fall. Fearon was tossing out other items from her window.
“And then that’s when the neighbors started screaming, ‘No, no, no, no!’” witness Lizette Rodriguez said, according to Fox News. “They were yelling at her: ‘Don’t do it! Think about it.’”
Next door neighbor Gregorio Lopez, 47, said he looked into the apartment and saw Fearon naked, with her other three children lined up on the floor, also naked.
“I actually thought that they weren’t alive when I saw them lying on the floor naked,” Lopez said, adding that he then saw Fearon “jump up and started hitting the window. That’s when I started calling for more help because I thought she might throw more (kids) out.”
As police were leading her out, Fearon repeatedly said the “devil is in her,” referring to her daughter, and that “everyone was going to die.”
“Something must have snapped,” said Carol Watson, who lives in the same building. “She was a good mother and very protective of those children. All I can tell you is that something must have snapped. She must have had a breakdown or something.”
Adds the NY Daily News: “Thursday’s tragedy took place just two weeks after 33-year-old Jennifer Berry was charged with murder for allegedly throwing her newborn out a window on W. 183rd St. in University Heights — less than a mile from Fearon’s home.”
In August, a similar demonic influence was allegedly at work. A Queens woman threw her one-month-old son from a fourth floor window because she was “possessed” and an evil spirit told her that the “pain would stop” only if she killed her son.
