The June 2015 issue of Sunset Magazine announced the winners of the Sunset Travel Awards for 2015. The Winemakers Studio at Wente Vineyards won the award as the Best Winery Tasting Room. As stated in the announcement, “Who better to bring us the next best thing in tasting rooms than the winery that, 101 years ago, brought us cuttings of what’s now the most-planted Chardonnay clone in California (the Wente clone) and, in 1986, helped invent “wine-country cooking” with a cutting-edge winery restaurant? Now Wente Vineyards has created an ideal venue for decanting their wine wisdom to the rest of us.”
Sunset was initially started by the Southern Pacific Railroad to promote travel in the West. The first-ever Sunset Travel Awards are to honor excellence and innovation in the tourism industry across the 13 Western states and the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. To find the best, they drafted 12 travel experts from across the region to be on the Travel Awards Advisory Board. The Sunset Editors chose four finalists from each of the 20 categories from the entries submitted. Then the Advisory Board convened to select the award winners.
At the Winemakers Studio you can learn how to pick out the specific aromas in wine and be able to describe them to your friends with ease in the Wine Aroma Seminar. Or take the Wine and Cheese Pairing class and discover what gourmet cheeses best pair with the four Winemakers Studio wines. The Winemakers Blending Experience is the highlight of the Winemakers Studio and something you do not want to miss. This is your chance, under the guidance of one of the Wente Wine Educators, to taste, evaluate and blend estate blocks of wine to create your very own bottle of wine with your special blend not found anywhere else. And you get to bottle and label that wine and take it home to serve to your friends.
The Winemakers Studio is located at the Wente Vineyards at 5565 Tesla Road in Livermore.
