Amid the Doo Wop oasis of the Wildwoods of New Jersey, the Sixth Annual Wildwood Tattoo Expo and Show presented by the Rebel Image Tattoo will kick off at the Wildwoods Convention Center from August 14 – 16. On Friday, August 14 the hours are 12pm to 11pm, on Saturday, August 15 from 11am to 11 pm and on Sunday, August 16 from 11am to 8pm with tickets costing $20 a day or $40 for the entire weekend.
The brain child of Mike Siderio, the Wildwood Tattoo Beach Bash is an annual extravaganza born of passion, genius and years spent working in the tattoo industry and seeing the potential for such an event where artists and customers can mingle.
There is a tribal elegance and primal sophistication to the art of tattooing and piercing, both of which are on display courtesy of the more than 300 artists who will be tattooing, lending advice and creating a friendly vibe at the convention center for body art devotees, aficionados and those just beginning to learn about the art form. Artists include Amy Nicoletto, a New Jersey native who also appeared on LA Ink, and a roster of Ink Master alumni including James Vaughn, Mark Matthews, Kyle Dunbar, Gentle Jay Blondel and Nick D’Angelo of Black Pearl Tattoo. There is also Tattoo Tony Rodriguez of Under My Skin Studio, who has inked everyone from Bret Michaels to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Inkllusionist – Fine Tattooing and Deceptive Performance – presents the two as a refined art form that combines Victorian aesthetic and Gothic undertones with the fluid precision afforded by modern day technology and application. Their tattoo style is Neo-Victorian Surrealism, otherwise known as Black Steam. As for shows, in the past, they have performed for such rock bands as Static X and Mushroomhead, and frequent the tattoo conventions circuit where they educate, illustrate and entertain.
There are also a plethora of venders who sell a variety of products, such as sports equipment and paraphernalia, tattooing necessities and luxurious body products. To name a few venders, there is Eternal Tattoo Supply that uses organic ingredients that are also vegan-friendly, Kona Sports, a supplier of all things surf related, Zippy’s Bikes and Embrace Your Body, a store that takes a holistic approach to nurturing and beautifying the body via creams.
Body art and related merchandise are not the only lure at the convention center. There is also the Ms. Vixen Swimsuit Contest where pinup model Laura Lynn will host a contest on August 15 at 7pm. The winner will be featured in a photo spread in Inked Magazine. The entry fee is $10 for ladies 18 or older.
There will also be live entertainment featured at the Expo. Bands such as Flathead Sky, which has worked with Don Jamieson of VHI’s That Metal Show and played at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, will play, as will the band Free For All.
Marlo Marquise, (also known as “Le Chic Freak” and “The Risk in Risqué”), is a renowned Showgirl and Impalement Artist who will delight audiences with her brand of old school sideshow repertoire that has a touch of saucy burlesque.
In essence, the dynamic culture of the tattoo world takes over the Wildwoods Convention Center with live tattooing, diverse entertainment, interactions with national artists and other audience draws.
There is a bit of the titillating and the unique, but for everyone there is not just entertainment but a way to revel in and relish the subculture of body art and design.
