People have become obsessed with the question of what will happen to Whitney Houston’s multi-million dollar fortune now that Bobbi Kristina is gone. As Whitney’s only child, Bobbi Kristina was the sole beneficiary of her mother’s estate. Though it had an estimated value of $20 million three years ago after Whitney’s death, with interest, it should now be worth considerably more, provided the Estate’s co-executor and president, Pat Houston, has not misappropriated or mishandled any of the funds.
To satisfy the public’s curiosity about who will end up with Whitney Houston’s money, a number of legal experts have weighed in. The most recent opinion comes from LawFirmNewswire.com which pointed out on Sept. 21 that under the terms of Whitney’s will, her fortune was to be distributed to her daughter in three installments over a period of approximately eight years.
As stipulated, Bobbi Kristina received 10% of her inheritance (about $2 million when she reached the age of 21. Had she lived, she was scheduled to receive another 30% at the age of 25, and the remainder at the age of 30. This means the bulk of Whitney’s dollar fortune should have remained intact.
On Sept. 22, Venture Capital Post reported that the Houstons and the Browns were fighting over who would get the remainder of Whitney Houston’s estate, but that is not really the case. There’s nothing for the Bobbi Kristina’s relatives to fight about, because it’s pretty clear as to who is entitled to the millions that remain.
According to NewsEveryday.com on Sept 22, Whitney’s will made it quite clear that if Bobbi Kristina died unmarried, without children, and without having made a will of her own, the remainder of her fortune was to be divided among her living relatives. As specifically indicated in Whitney’s will, the money is to be distributed in equal shares to her mother, Cissy Houston, and her two half-brothers, Michael, and Gary (to whom Pat Houston is married).
The only portion of Whitney Houston’s fortune that Bobby Brown is entitled to receive is the remainder of the $2 million Bobby Kristina inherited when she turned 21. Bobbi Kristina was receiving her portion of the money she had already inherited from her mother’s estate as automatic monthly payments of $11,000 to her bank account. As her father and next of kin, Bobby Brown is entitled to receive the yet unpaid portion of his daughter’s personal $2 million estate.
So there’s really no mystery as to who will get Whitney Houston’s multi-million dollar estate. It’s clearly spelled out in Whitney’s will exactly where the money goes, and who gets what. The Browns and the Houstons are not fighting over Whitney Houston’s fortune, because there’s nothing for them to fight about.
