There are rain coats that could stave off a blizzard but sometimes all that is needed is a light, soft jacket that will keep one warm and dry in a light spritz of rain. The White Sierra Full Moon softshell jacket is perfect in the Sierra during fall and spring when periods of mild temperatures often alternate with blasts of arctic air.
The softshell fabric of the Full Moon hooded jacket has four way stretch and is waterproof and breathable. Made from a polyester and spandex blend, the jacket is treated with a microfilm lamination to provide waterproofness. A soft microfleece lining is lightweight but pleasing to the touch and is printed with a fun white-on-gray floral design. The hem has a draw cord to seal out chilly winds and the cuffs have two sets of snaps to be able to adjust the sleeve around the wrist. Hand warmer pockets are lined with the same fine microfleece and are equipped with zippers to secure contents. Inside, the jacket offers two more large pockets that are ideal for stuffing a knitted hat or gloves. The women’s jacket is offered in Ice Blue, Mint and Black.
In a field test the Ice Blue Full Moon jacket has been used while hiking at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park during the fall months when temperatures dropped and sporadic rain showers arrived. It has been the perfect weight for the transitional season between summer and winter, providing warmth in cool temperatures, protection from the wind and a shield against rain. It breaths well so even on steep hikes the jacket is comfortable. It was nice to have the hood when unexpected sprinkles arrived, protecting the head as well as the upper body. The Ice Blue color, similar to periwinkle, is bright and cheerful. It folds easily into a daypack when not needed. The jacket travels well, packing easily into a suitcase and emerging unwrinkled. It has a classic, flattering cut and is not restrictive.
