Thursday evening White House press secretary Josh Earnest caalled “foul” on the undercover videos of Planned Parenthood. Earnest says the videos are “fraudulent” as he defended maintaining federal funding for the nation’s largest abortion provider.
“Planned Parenthood has been quite specific about the policy and procedures that they have in place and I know that they have described those procedures as reaching the highest ethical standards,” Earnest told reporters. “Based on the essentially fraudulent way these videos have been released, there is not a lot of evidence that Planned Parenthood hasn’t lived up to those standards.”
The Blaze reports that a fourth sting video from an anti-abortion group was released Thursday claiming to show an abortion doctor “negotiating a fetal body parts deal, agreeing multiple times to illicit pricing per body part harvested, and suggesting ways to avoid legal consequences.”
As usual, instead of doing the right thing and supporting the victim, the Obama administration has once again chosen the side of the abuser. In this case, it’s the extremists on the right-Republicans-who are to blame for Planned Parenthood’s misery according to Earnest. “There is ample reason to think that this is merely the tried and true tactic we’ve seen from extremists on the right to edit this video and selectively release an edited version of the video that grossly distorts the positions of the person who is in the video,” Earnest said. When asked later about terming the videos “fraudulent,” Earnest said it’s based on what Planned Parenthood has said. And he said this with a straight face.
President Obama opposes Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood in the wake of damaging videos exposing its fetal tissue donation program, reports The Hill. Even though Earnest didn’t issue a formal veto threat against the legislation, but he said “on balance, the president would not be supportive of such congressional action.” A lot of posturing for someone who has admitted he is not sure if President Obama has even seen the videos, but added he is following the story in the news. What it boils down to is the Obama White House will not condemn abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, for harvesting and selling aborted baby body parts.
The fact that these babies were not even important enough for the president to personally review the videos, and at the very least, order an immediate investigation speaks volumes about his character-or lack thereof. This president and administration has done nothing but support, defend and run interference for the enemy-both foreign and domestic-since his first day in office.
In another effort to deflect attention away from the content of the videos, President Obama’s top healthcare official defended federal funding for Planned Parenthood at a hearing on Tuesday. Instead, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell focused her comments on how the federal funding for Planned Parenthood provides mammograms and other services for women.
According to IJReview, the House of Representatives left for summer recess Thursday without a vote on Rep. Diane Black’s (R-TN) bill to end federal funding to Planned Parenthood locations that perform abortions during a House investigation into the organization. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has promised that a vote on their own bill will take place next week. Maybe the president will have watched the videos by then, but I doubt it.
