The weather outside has gotten chilly, which means you need to stay indoors with a warm beverage. Here is a list of wonderful, warm drinks being offered by restaurants and bars in the DC area this fall and winter. Each of these boozy beverages will warm you from the inside out. Plan to sample them all this winter!
1789 Restaurant is offering a truly seasonal beverage, a Brown Buttered Rum Cider made with brown butter infused Mt. Gay Rum, warm spiced apple cider, and served with an apple chip.
Bibiana Osteria-Enoteca will be offering the following warm cocktails this holiday season as part of their 25 Cocktails of Christmas promotion: the Vin Brule, a mulled wine drink, the Hot & Cold Gin Fizz, a Hot Buttered Rum, the Sidro di Mele made with Brandy, Cinnamon Maple Syrup, Lime, Apple Cider and a Spicy Hot Chocolate.
Secret Chopsticks will be serving a Ying and Yang Toddy this winter comprised of 2oz Rock and Rye, 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters, 1 Slice Lemon, 3oz boiling water, and grated nutmeg. It’s garnished with a handmade rock candy swizzle stick to stir the drink with.
On Capitol Hill, Ambar is featuring a Sumadija Hot Tea made with plum rakia, Becherovka liqueur, caramelized sugar, and garnished with cinnamon stick.
The newly renovated power dining spot, 701 Restaurant, is serving a Chai-Spiced Buttered Rum, a concoction of 1.5 oz. chai-spice infused dark rum, 2 tablespoons amaretto butter batter, and 2 dashes house-made black tea bitters.
Blue Duck Tavern at Park Hyatt Washington is selling a Boozy White Hot Chocolate made with white chocolate, almond milk, chili pepper, angostura bitters, Cruzan rum, and Captain Morgan rum. It is served with a house made marshmallow on the side which is flavored with angostura bitters and Captain Morgan’s rum, and is dusted with chili powder. It is served warm in a little glass mug. They also have an updated Hot Toddy, made with Genmaicha tea from their own tea cellar. Genmaicha is a Japanese tea that is a green tea combined with roasted brown rice. The tea is combined with Green Chartreuse, fresh lime, and honey to make a delicious hot toddy.
Situated next to the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro, Richard Sandoval’s Zengo has a wonderful Mexican Coffee with Grand Marnier, Kahlua, coffee and a caramelized sugar rim.
Cleveland Park hot spot, Ardeo+Bardeo has a great hot drink to sample called the Chai Town, which is made from a combination of Chai-infused rum, vanilla simple syrup, steamed milk, and nutmeg.
Macon Bistro & Larder, the French and Southern-inspired bistro in Chevy Chase, has created a cider made with house made mulling spice mix and Copper & King’s American apple brandy out Kentucky, which has been aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels and sherry casks. The cider is served in a china teapot, which gets you two cups of cider.
Situated in the newly developed Southwest Waterfront, Station 4 has two warm cocktails on their menu. The first is the Hot Toddy, made from a combination of Amador Double Barrel Whiskey/ Drambuie/ Homemade Squash Syrup, and the second is the Glögg, a homemade mulled wine drink made with a Potpourri of Spices & Nuts. Their version is made with wine, bourbon, vodka, clove, orange, lemon, cinnamon, cardamom, almonds, walnuts, nutmeg.
