Residents in a Washington State county are devastated after one cat was found beaten to death and two others are recovering from their injuries, Q13 Fox News reported June 3.
Whatcom County investigators have begun a search to find the person responsible for several acts of animal cruelty in Custer. Last weekend a cat named Smokey was found dead in the road.
Katie Graves was lucky her cat Mr. Wilson survived. Named after Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, Katie has had Mr. Wilson since he was found in a dumpster when he was only a week old.
Saturday morning Katie had allowed Mr. Wilson outside. When she went out around 8 a.m. to bring him inside and feed her dog, Mr. Wilson came up to her with his leg barely hanging on.
Mr. Wilson was rushed to the vet for x-rays, which confirmed his leg had been broken. Katie told Q13Fox
“I figured he had gotten attacked by another animal. But he absolutely no puncture marks on him, so the vet ruled that out pretty quickly. Three cats in one night, that’s kind of suspicious,” she says. “If it was one cat, accidents happen. But all three happening in a 12 hour period, something’s going on here.”
Katie soon learned that Frigg, who belongs to Katie’s roommate, had also been injured, but is expected to recover.
There are several vacant homes in the area, and squatters have been seen in the area. Katie shared that information with Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, who are now talking with neighbors.
Mr. Wilson will no longer be allowed outside, and Katie and her roommate are looking for a new place to live. They no longer feel safe in their neighborhood, as those who abuse animals often move up to abusing people.
Friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help with Mr. Wilson’s vet bills. They’ve also started Facebook: Justice for Mr. Wilson and Frigg.
