If you believe that Jeff Foxworthy is in fact smarter than a Fifth Grader, is a consummate comedian, writer, businessman and all around nice guy then you must have gotten the memo because these are all fact despite the persona he so often embraces on stage trying to lead his minions of fans to believe that he is just a guy who has a proclivity for flannel, pickup trucks and pulled pork. In a recent phone chat the hills and hillbillies came alive as this man of many faces shared with refreshing honesty a career that has taken him from Wal-Mart to Wall Street with more than his fair share of stops along the way. Smart and sarcastic, he is a never cruel as he reflects on the foibles of humanity with a sense of wonder and a brand of humor that clearly has mass appeal. He makes no apologies for his success and yet at the same time acknowledges that life has many options and opportunities and as such he readily admits his gratitude for the path he was offered as well as his razor sharp focus allowing him to spin a blue light special at the local Piggly Wiggly into a gold mine.
When asked about his upcoming tour “We’ve Been Thinking” and what fans can expect, he was quick to offer that he would be sharing the stage with friend and fellow “Redneck”, Larry the Cable Guy.
I got together with Larry, which included a great deal of junk food and beer and I explained we needed to come up with some new material. Larry greeted this idea with a few dozen colorful words but agreed it was time to do what I believe we do best, tell stories about stuff that is happening in our lives right now.
Foxworthy also assured that the fun and success of fielding questions from the audience will be included and for anyone who has been privy to that it is a formula for joyful chaos that always seems to circle back to bodily functions, food and the impact such meals have on bodily functions.
As for the present state of politics, This is a man not afraid to take on any topic explaining that if he were to run for President his would be based upon a “No More Platform”:
- “No more picking up dog poop… It’s fertilizer folks.”
- “No more reality television.”
- “No more trophies for everyone who plays team sports in school. Not everyone can be a winner all the time.”
Considering what has been said lately by some of our most vocal candidates, a rather tame and logical approach to running a country. Still not impressed? Well add to this his long list of achievements as an humanitarian and all around nice guy. As a recent recipient of the Duckprints Award from AFLAC for his work raising funds and awareness for pediatric cancer he continues to prove that despite his uncanny ability to play dumb he is one smart, nutritionally barren cookie.
Keep an eye on this guy, as he clearly has not even begun to raise his status as resident Redneck to super nova status. Jeff and Larry’s “We’ve Been Thinking Tour” opens Saturday, October 3, 2015 and in Kansas City, MO with many more dates to follow.
While he would like us to believe he simply a Redneck living a life filled with a “glorious absence of sophistication”, Jeff Foxworthy is publicly a diamond in the rough with a heart of gold making him a true gem and gentleman.
NOTE: This year’s award is especially noteworthy because the Aflac Cancer Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the company’s total contributions will officially surpass $100 million next month.
