According to an ESPN.com report on Oct. 29, an unfortunate injury to Baylor quarterback Seth Russell which has him sidelined for the season may end up boosting TCU’s shot at winning the National Championship this season. The season-ending neck injury for Russell will require surgery and may also give more of a chance for Horned Frogs’ quarterback Trevone Boykin to win the Heisman Trophy. He current has 25 touchdowns which has him fifth among all quarterbacks in the nation. He’s also No. 15 overall in terms of rushing yards per game, with 62.9 per game on average.
While TCU is no surprise, West Virginia was earlier this season, but quickly fell from a Top 25 spot. They started off hot, winning their first three games of the season convincingly and then fell 44-24 to then-No. 15 Oklahoma. They lost twice more including a home game against then-No. 21 Oklahoma State and at former-No. 2 Baylor. As of right now, the Mountaineers are 0-3 in conference play and with this latest matchup against a top five team, it doesn’t seem things will improve. Luckily, their next five games after tonight’s come against Big 12 foes that are currently unranked.
Vegas odds makers had the point spread open at 14-1/2 points in favor of Texas Christian, but since then it’s dropped about a point or 1-1/2 points lower. For moneyline bettors, TCU is a -555 favorite while the West Virginia Mountaineers are +470 underdogs. The Horned Frogs are among the favorites to win the National Championship right now, ranking eighth among all teams with odds of 17 to 1.
