Now that The Voice has narrowed its field down to the Top 10, NBC is introducing its contenders to the audience – and each other – with a new series of behind-the-scenes videos. Use the media player included with this article to see Team Blake’s Barrett Baber and Team Pharrell’s Madi Davis interview each other as they prepare for their shot at next week’s semifinals.
You can also see interviews between Team Adam’s Amy Vachal and Team Gwen’s Jeffery Austin, Team Gwen’s Braiden Sunshine and Team Adam’s Jordan Smith, Team Blake’s Emily Ann Roberts and Team Pharrell’s Korin Bukowski, and Team Blake’s Zach Seabaugh and Team Adam’s Shelby Brown.
NBC normally makes a few of these videos every season, whether it’s contestants speaking with one another or sometimes being interviewed by artists who have appeared on the show in earlier years. This season they’re particularly bullish in that respect; this batch comes right after the network released a behind the scenes series for the Top 11 last week and another one for the Top 12 two weeks ago.
In addition, season eight singers Hannah Kirby and India Carney were recalled to interview the season nine artists for a Halloween-themed set last month, which you can find here.
Why turn out so much video content? These videos are the network’s way of letting the audience know the off-stage personalities of the artists, which can be a huge leg up in the competition as fans tend to vote for singers that they’ve connected with, rather than necessarily the best performers. The pieces also provide NBC with more digital exclusive content, since The Voice has a strong online and social media presence for the network, including using Twitter for its Instant Save elimination voting.
But fans might want to appreciate these videos – and the people in them – while they can. With just three weeks left in season nine, The Voice has no choice but to start axing multiple contestants beginning with this Tuesday’s Top 10 results show, in order to get the field down to the three or four finalists that the program normally carries. The season finale is slated to air Tuesday, Dec. 15.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
