A two-year-old child died after wandering into the area where a dog was chained in Berkeley County, West Virginia, reported Wednesday’s WHAG News. On Monday evening, the little boy apparently wandered approximately four houses away from his home and into the path of a boxer mix who lived on Charles Town Road in Baker Heights, reported the Herald Mail Media.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, the little boy was found by the dog’s owner; the toddler was flown to a hospital, but died from undisclosed injuries. Captain Scott Richmond stated, “We have no idea at this point how long that child laid there before he was found.”
Captain Richmond added, “Part of the investigation is why didn’t anybody know, how did the child get there, and what exactly happened?”
As of yet, the fate of the dog implicated in the child’s death is undetermined. The sheriff’s department is investigating the circumstances surround the tragic incident.
