I’m sure many of us parents were shocked to view the recent video that has gone viral in various media outlets involving two women and a 6-year-old at a WalMart. Two women were fighting and one encouraged her young boy to engage himself in the chaos. During the fight, the boy is seen to kick one woman, per the request of his mother, and hit her in the head with a shampoo bottle. Standers-by were recording and one can be heard telling the young boy to stop, while the other tells her not to involve herself.
The Beech Grove WalMart incident has since led to charges. According to USA Today, the mother, 34-year-old Amber Stephenson,
…was charged Friday with neglect of a dependent and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The altercation occurred between Stephenson and WalMart employee Rebecca Mills, reports the USA Today. Neither women are charged with fighting one another.
While it is good for us to teach our children to stand up for themselves, promoting violence such as this can only lead to trouble.
