On August 6th, Jazzy Entertainment Group brought the internationally beloved Kpop group VIXX to the House of Blues in Downtown Disney. It was the groups first time in Orlando, Florida and they were welcomed to the state by a sold out venue. VIXX is a six member South Korean boy band signed under Jellyfish Entertainment. The group was formed through a survival reality show known as MyDOL back in 2012. VIXX is an acronym for Voice, Visual, Value in Excelsis.
Fans of the group are known as Starlights, and those fans showed their dedication by showing up at 8AM to stand in line and claim their spot in the general admission concert hall. House of Blues employees were the first to arrive, checking tickets and handing out color coded wrist bands based on the tickets and what perks it came with. VVIP had either sound check, photo with VIXX or autographed poster depending on how quickly they bought their tickets. House of Blues also handed out numbers to those that had been awarded the sound check, to ensure they would be able to keep their spot in line after returning outside and to keep it fair to everyone. Some confusion took place a little later in the day with this once Jazzy Group arrived and started handing out new numbers. The color coded papers they handed out then took priority leaving many confused and uncertain about their place in line. However, things still progressed smoothly and because of the generosity and kindness of the Starlights in line, many were able to return to their spots after sound check with minimal issues. Throughout the day House of Blues and Jazzy Group staff would police the line and answer questions as best they could regarding line up, the concert and any concerns that were arising.
Courtesy of the venue, water was provided at a station by the check in to the Starlights who braved the heat, humidity and sun as they waited almost 12 hours to see their idols perform. Umbrellas were a hot item to purchase as vendors walked the various lines selling them. Many jumped at the chance to have some protection from the sun. The largest line was for starlights who had purchased Jazzy Group’s superstar card, allowing them to go inside first, regardless of ticket price. Other lines were made for regular VVIP, VIP, and General admission. All of this was in an attempt to make it fair for those that had paid for the more expensive tickets.
Many commented on how polite and courteous the Starlight fandom was. Everyone appeared to be socializing and making new friends in the Florida heat. Even the pit inside was said to be the most relaxed and enjoyable many had ever been in, with very little pushing or fighting to be closer to the stage. Even a brief sprinkle of rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those outside as the time drew close for hte concert to start. As the lines began to move it was organized and well controlled even as anticipation of the coming concert swelled. Even though they would be waiting another hour for the concert to start, many were thankful to just have a chance to be in air conditioning and out of the sun.
Earlier in the day, 100 fans were given a chance to see the sound check. This was awarded to the people who were able to buy the first 100 tickets when they went on sale. Positioned up on the balcony of the House of Blues and spread out so that they could all see it was a unique perk and a chance to see the group in a more casual atmosphere. VIXX came out and performed two of their hit songs dressed in street clothes. Ken, their main vocal, was dressed in a tank top with a mask pulled down over his chin as he performed. Leo, another of the vocals, wore torn jeans and the others were dressed equally as casually as they practiced in a rather relaxed manner. They were still obviously focused on the job at hand, but their leader, N, promised the two songs would look much better when they were performed later. They exited to cheers from the Starlights before they too were asked to exit and return to their places in line.
As the show started, VIXX appeared looking far more professional. Dressed in peach-colored trousers and black and white paneled dress-shirts with “VIXX” over and over on them, the outfits were obviously a variations of the outfits worn during “Eternity” promotions. THe boys opened with energy as their performed their dance remake song “Love Equation”, which had earned them eight wins on music programs back in February.
After introductions, the group answered questions from fans in a segment known as “Ast VIXX”. Starlights had been given post it notes while in line and were asked to write questions and attach them to two poster boards. The members then selected questions to answer from the boards. This segment went on for 30 minutes while fans were given a chance to learn more about the members. During that time, one question asked about the members’ ringtones which prompted Ken to do a very convincing vibrating phone which impressed both the other other members of VIXX and the audience. Next was a teamwork game where the group split into two teams of six and were asked to act out keywords. The visual, Hongbin, was dismayed that he had to be on Leo’s team, saying he always loses whenever they are together. The streak seemed to be in tact after the game was played out as once again their team lost. The first team was made up of the groups rapper, Ravi, their leader N, and their youngest member Hyuk. Each time they were successful in their recreations of various poses as a team without any sort of prompting from one another. This included Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” which had them all dancing. Team Leo, Ken and Hongbin claimed N was cheating but no one else seemed to be on their side. Hongbin’s team was able to coordinate for a few answers but their fate was sealed when even N’s team was able to successfully impersonate Michael Jackson without any sort of prompting.
After the game segment it was back to the music as they performed some of their wildly popular songs including “Rock ur Body”, “Error” and “Eternity. Eleven songs in total were performed over the course of the evening. THere was even a short video in the middle as they changed from their peach outfits into vibrant red jacket and pant suits. As the concert came to a conclusion it was time for the rest of the fan engagements. Hi-touch was given with all VVIP and VIP tickets and winners of the photo opportunity were also next to claim their prize. There was a rather confused mass of people for a few moments as different colored wrist bands were directed to various areas within the House of Blues. After about a half an hour, the Starlights were led upstairs and through a twisted maze that was the balcony levels until seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. People were told no pictures or video and to keep their hands up as they walked up to the table that VIXX stood behind, hands up and smiling at their fans as they were give a close up look at their idols. After that fans were ushered outside to meet up with friends and gush over the experience with other fans.
Overall the evening with VIXX seemed smooth and effortless with no major issues. According to those that had been to multiple Jazzy Group shows it was perhaps the smoothest run with the best produced and organized concert experience. VIXX shone brightly upon the stage and were met with a night full of screams from beginning to end and everyone seemed to leave satisfied. It was a night that ORlando Starlights are still reliving in their minds and one they are not likely to soon forget.
