Virgin America, the California airline that put fun back into flying, is pumping up the frivolity and the crew with a limited edition of the Virgin America Pump in Concourse Red. The company is donating $10 from each s hoe sale to the American Association to support awareness, research and education of cardiovascular disease.
“Our mission at Virgin America has always been to bring back a bit of the style to flying – and our sleek aircraft cabins and design-forward in-flight uniforms have helped do just that. By partnering with Zappos, we’re now looking to take that a step further with the custom-designed Virgin America pump,” said Luanne Calvert, Chief Marketing Officer at Virgin America. “Travel can be stylish and fun – and this limited edition shoe was designed with an eye for both function and fashion. Created to be both comfortable and chic, it is the perfect travel accessory.”
In addition to the custom pump, Virgin America and Zappos also debuted a collection of shoes, clothes and accessories curated by the airline’s in-flight teammates to help complete the look. Available at Zappos web site the collection includes a sleek black patent leather flat as well as:
- Levi’s® Womens 721™ High Rise Skinny jean in soft black that blends a classic silhouette with modern fabrication for a flattering and truly timeless look.
- MINKPINK Feels Right Long Sleeve Top in soft striped jersey with scoop neckline, long sleeves and cold shoulder cutouts.
- Theory Lakelyn Dress is the perfect, little black dress with a simple, classic design that never goes out of style.
“Virgin America and Zappos are two brands known for elevating the customer experience – and we saw an opportunity to design a heel that was tailored for the demands of the airline’s in-flight teammates and that our customers would love too,” said Galen Hardy, senior director of partnerships for Zappos. “We were able to create a contemporary shoe that reflects the modern style of Virgin America’s design aesthetic – and looks just as good at 35,000 feet as it does on a night out painting the town red.”
Virgin America calls the concept for look – from uniform to hair and makeup –”effortless travel chic.” The airline launched a new uniform in 2012, which included a red dress as a way for teammates to show support for the American Heart Association. The optional uniform rose fast in popularity with the crew and passengers.
