How do heretics celebrate an anniversary? Why, by throwing a big party, of course. That’s what’s coming up in this week’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me,” for Mary Louise and Nora, and atombash.com hopped on the phone with Teressa Liane to find out what to expect from the hour, chat about Mary Louise’s struggles fitting in and more.
atombash.com: We’ve seen that Mary Louise is struggling to fit in in 2015. Why is that? Why has it been so much easier for the others like Nora and Oscar?
Teressa Liane: “I think the way that we’ve seen each of the characters adapt is very much [related to their] individual story. They’ve all come from different backgrounds. I think Mary Louise is just a bit more reserved in nature and really the most contrasting personality is Nora, and I think that’s why we see such huge conflicts between them when it comes to that, adapting to this world. They’re just very different people and it’s not for lack of trying, but for some reason, Mary Louise just struggles with it that much more.”
Are we going to learn why Mary Louise is the way she is? Maybe via flashbacks?
I have no idea at this point. I really do hope we get to visit some of that. We do get brief hints at things to do with her history, but at the moment, it hasn’t been something that we’re looking at, but I’m hoping that’s in the future for her because I would definitely love to explore that.
Mary Louise and Nora hit a bump in their relationship at the Heaven & Hell party. How would you describe their relationship right now? Stable? Shaky? Somewhere in between?
I think it’s stable at this point. They’ve come across a few challenges that they have had to overcome and at that time, for both of them, I think there have been a few doubts in their mind but they keep coming back to this point of knowing that they are deeply in love with each other and wanting to maintain this relationship. So, it is at a stable place and that’s definitely the way that they want to continue, but there are a few more things coming up that definitely are going to test them but yeah, at this point, they’re a united front for sure.
And they’re celebrating their anniversary in the next “TVD” episode with a party, so of course, I have to ask how bloody is it going to get an what can you tease about the episode?
There is a huge, huge party celebrating their 133 years together. The actual set and everything is amazing. … The actual party scenes are awesome. As for how much blood there’s going to be, they’re really, really trying to [live by] Lily’s rules. Julian definitely is there to sway that.
You brought up how Julian is swaying the feeding issue. Why do you think it was so easy for Julian to get inside Mary Louise’s head about losing her swagger and perhaps boring Nora? Is it because Nora is her weak point or does that have more to do with who Julian is?
I think he found Mary Louise at a weak point, so it was just easier to really get into and test her self-doubt at that point. She’s really struggling to remember who she is now that she’s trying to basically just please everybody, really Nora and everyone. She’s kind of just putting everyone else before her own nature and her true behavior and it’s just kind of leaving her in this real insecure place. Nora seems to be easily adapting to everything and then also kind of not necessarily on purpose but putting Mary Louise down in little ways.
I think he just really found her at her weak point. She also looks up to him. She’s always seen him as a bit of a father figure and now that he’s returned, she’s just really looking to someone for an authority and to really show her how to be, and I think that’s why it was just so easy for him to manipulate her in that way.
Lily has opened her eyes to what a monster Julian is, but how does Mary Louise feel about him? Is she completely loyal to Lily or could Julian sway her to his side?
At this point, she doesn’t see any of his bad behavior. She sees him as this almost father that’s returned from war or something. She just really wants to hold onto him and really just be there for him and she wants him to be the way he was or how she remembers him. She also is very devoted and loyal to Lily as we’ve seen in past episodes, so it is that sort of thing where she is very loyal to both. Certainly circumstances that are going to arise over the next few episodes are possibly going to push her and others to maybe see that he is not that way, but at this point, she’s extremely loyal to both.
How would you describe Mary Louise’s relationship with Valerie? Even in the premiere, they obviously weren’t besties, but could Mary Louise’s feelings change if she finds out what Julian did?
I think deep down she loves Valerie. She’s always going to see her as a sister, but she also sees that she has betrayed the whole family and so she’s one of the first people to defend those she loves and Valerie kind of put her in a really tough spot in that way where she had to choose between Valerie and the rest of the family. At this point, she doesn’t necessarily like her. She sees her as somebody she can’t trust, but when it comes down to it, I think she still has this connection to Valerie.
Stefan used Mary Louise’s vulnerability to lure her in as leverage to get Nora to siphon Valerie’s spell off Caroline. Mary Louise let it go at the time, but is that something that could come up again or does she get why he did that?
I think the fact that they are these supernatural beings, certain things like that that do no result in death, I think they kind of see that as part of the game. She doesn’t necessarily hold that hugely against him but she is very wary of his intentions as well as Damon’s and Caroline’s. … We’re very wary but we don’t really hold grudges unless there was a direct threat to one of us.
There are groups of people around Mystic Falls, basically being prepped for the slaughter. What can you tease about what we’ll see from that? Is it a slow drawn out reveal or…?
There isn’t too much I can say about that since it is quite a story. … It’s not going to be too long until we find out what they are there for.
Since the Gemini coven was responsible for trapping the heretics in the prison world, is Caroline even more of a target if they find out she’s pregnant with the twins?
At this point, Caroline is not too much of a target. Nobody is really aware of what’s happening just yet. As for the Gemini coven, that isn’t really a storyline that is coming up just yet.
Any possibility of seeing Mary Louise in a flashforward?
I’m still waiting to find that out actually. We haven’t seen it just yet. I’m sure as everyone keeps talking about, the storylines are being written and changed as they go, so we’re keeping an eye out of that. We’re not sure exactly, but once we know, we would definitely be excited to see where these girls end up.
Yeah, because everything is crazy in the future. It’s hard to even imagine.
Yeah, even with us, whenever we get these scripts, we’re going through going, “Oh, really, that happens? Oh my God.” It just throws us all through a loop. Even hearing the responses from fans, pretty funny and it’s definitely keeping us on our toes.
Any exciting scenes coming up you can tease? Any fights or anything like that?
With the huge party and everything, everyone in town ends up finding out about it or somehow being involved and there is quite a bit of action coming up in this next episode. It basically involves every character I think. This next episode is pretty huge in relation to storyline and alliances and everything.
