The month of August will begin with some easy, affordable show and clinic opportunities across the Wasatch front.
On Saturday, August 1, the lovely Copper Hills Equestrian Center in Herriman will host the Tri-Equilon Show, open to riders of all levels and horses of all breeds! Renowned trainer Barry Beach (of Rockin E Farms in Bountiful, Utah) will be judging this event.
Sign up opens bright and early at 8:00 am on Saturday morning, with classes starting at 10. Visit the UAHC site and open the class list to see the variety of classes available! Entry fees are just $5 per class, plus an office fee of $5 per horse. There is no additional grounds fee and no charge for spectators.
A trail course will be set up outdoors during the show; participate for $5 per ride. A judge will be on hand for those who’d like to have their performance evaluated. Receive helpful tips and advice from a seasoned senior trainer with an impressive wealth of trail and show expertise! While traditional show attire is not required for this event, long pants and boots must be worn, and helmets are mandatory for all riders under age 18.
The UAHC (Utah Arabian Horse Club) is putting on another one of their popular events on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. An Obstacle Trail Clinic will take place at the Universal Equestrian Center in Bountiful, Utah (400 N, 1450 W) with demonstrations, discussions and hands-on instruction for those interested in participating in this fun and interesting activity. Trainers Amanda Thomas Lucherini and Julie Tomlin will teach riders how to introduce their horses to obstacles.
Reservations must be made in advance for those who wish to ride. The cost to participate is $45 for non-members, $35 for UAHC members, or audit for just $25 (non-members), $20 for UAHC members. If you are not yet a member, you can join the club that evening ($45) and then audit the clinic for free! The clinic begins at 6pm, with a potluck immediately before at 5pm. Call Amanda (801-726-2899) or Julie (208-320-8115) for more information.
The following Saturday, August 8, Vista Farms will host another one of their well-attended fun shows! Starting at 9am with English classes, there is a terrific variety for riders of all ages and experience levels. With the inviting, relaxed environment, Vista’s fun shows are ideal for those who are new to competition or experienced riders who want to get in a little practice in the show pen. For seasoned and green horses alike, this is a terrific way to offer your horse additional exposure to competition in an enjoyable, friendly, stress-free setting!
After the noon break, classes resume with in-hand events (halter and showmanship), then on to the playful variety of western classes. As with the English options, classes are offered for youth and adults, beginners to novice. Full show attire is not required, nor is fancy show tack. Ride in your usual saddle and bridle. Long pants and boots or shoes with a small heel are required, as are helmets for all youth riders under age 18.
The entry fee at Vista is just $5 per class, plus a $10 grounds fee and $10 office fee. Ribbons are awarded through 6th place and first place winners also receive “Vista Bucks” which can be used to purchase additional prizes! Conveniently located just south of Salt Lake in West Jordan at 9363 S 3400 W, you can find directions on the Vista Horse Farm website. Sign up on site the morning of the show, or print off your entry form and class list from the barn’s website ahead of time.
