After a long brutal winter, summer is finally here! With summer comes more bright, fun makeup looks. You may leave the foundation in your makeup container and grab the tinted moisturizer, but summer is when most people go bold and experiment with their makeup.
Even though you’re switching up your looks, you won’t need to change brands. Many brands change things up to help prepare shoppers for the warmer weather with their summer collections. Here is a look at great items that you can add to your makeup stash for the summer.
Shiny glosses. While many people opt for the drugstore when it comes to lip gloss, but some of the brand glosses come from the higher-end brands. If you’re not a fan of lipstick in the summer and want something quick and easy, your best bet is a shiny lipgloss. MAC Dazzleglass Lipcolours ($20) have a stickier formula, but works great at staying put. The only downside is your hair will get stuck in the gloss if it’s windy out and your hair is down. My hair is always in a pony tail so I don’t have any issues with dazzleglasses.
Long-wearing shadows. It’s hot out and many people don’t want to have to worry about their eye shadows creasing. If you have oily lids, you’ll still need a primer! But it’s good to add some long-wearing shadows like the Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic shadow pencils ($21), that allow you to create a fun look in a matter of minutes. The creaseless formula is also waterproof, which is perfect for the hot, summer months!
Lip stains are all the rage. There’s a reason that many people are going for lip stains during the summer. They go on super glossy and leave a gorgeous stain when it dries. It’s the perfect, go-to summer product. YSL offers a variety of different glossy stains that makeup lovers are raving about. L’Oreal also has a more affordable option available at the drugstore.
Bold liners. If you’re not into wearing eye shadows during the summer, a great option is a bold liner. Liquid liners are great since they dry quickly, and last several hours. You won’t have to worry about touching up or creasing. A great choice is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. It’s highly pigmented, easy to work with, and will stay on all day. You’ll find your typical neutral colors, as well as fun, bright colors like Turquoise. You can also find great liners from Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever and Milani.
Waterproof mascara. While I don’t wear waterproof mascara, many people prefer that to regular during the summer. Most brands carry waterproof, so you won’t have to switch brands to get a mascara that will last all day during the hot, sweaty weather.
Setting sprays. Makeup setting sprays are a huge lifesaver during the summer. If you have oily skin, they help keep your makeup on and skin matte. COOLA and Supergoop! both have great setting sprays that also have SPF in them. Whether you want to wear makeup or not, they’ll both keep your face from looking extra oily during the summer.
Lip balms. If you don’t want to wear lipstick or gloss, a great choice are lip balms. Every brands, high and low-end carry their own line of lip balms or jumbo lip pencils. At the drugstore, the best options are the REVLON lip butters. They’re highly pigmented, moisturizing, and you won’t have to use a mirror to apply. At the higher-end price point, a favorite are the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms. They have a ton of colors, they’re super moisturizing, and you also won’t need a mirror to apply these.
