Happy, happy update. She has been adopted. Hopefully, her new family will help to erase the years of torture and neglect she endured. She’s one of the lucky ones.
Horribly neglected senior girl was shot, chained and probably used for breeding. She has had a terrible life, but the volunteers at Rescue Me Tampa, Shelter Dogs are hoping that Butterfly’s life is about to change.
Butterfly is only 27 pounds. But she’s nine years old, she has heartworm disease, and from all appearances, she’s had a terrible life. Bullet pieces were found and removed from her leg, but there are still fragments which can’t be removed near her right knee. Her teeth, incisors and canines, are severely worn down. That happens when dogs are chained and try to chew through their chains or when dogs are starved and they gnaw on rocks to try to ease their hunger.
In spite of her abuse and neglect, Butterfly seems to be relaxed in the shelter. It might just be that she’s too exhausted to get up. And sometimes, severely abused dogs or strays are very content in shelter environments. It’s the first time they get regular meals and an actual bed. But the Hillsborough County Animal Shelter is not a no-kill shelter. Butterfly needs to find rescue or an adopter who will take care of her medical needs.
Butterfly is ready to go (be adopted or go to rescue). Her ID number is A28674008 and there is more information about adopting her or rescuing her on her Facebook thread.
Please share her story. This girl has had a rough life. She has probably never known a kind word, a soft caress or a yummy treat. It’s time for her to learn about the better things in life. Soft dog beds, yummy bones, chasing a ball on soft green grass. Let’s make sure that her dreams (if she knew what to dream for) come true.
