One-eyed Joe was rescued! Here’s to hoping he has a life filled with happiness and lots of love.
A hound dog with only one eye who is covered in scars sits sadly in a shelter kennel waiting for a time when he will finally receive some love and affection. One-eyed Joe, as he is called, has been through a lot. But in spite of the scars and the missing eye, he is sweet and gentle.
Whoever had Joe did not treat him well. Not only is his body covered in proof of the rough treatment he endured, he is heartworm positive. His previous owner did not bother to treat him for heartworm disease. This will make it less likely that a rescue will pull Joe because of the cost involved in treating this easily-prevented disease. Joe holds no grudges. He still loves humans.
When petted, he gratefully licks the hand of the person petting him. This grizzled guy has a heart of gold. Someone, somewhere, would be lucky to give Joe a chance and show him the love he craves. But he’s in a rural shelter in Dyersburg, the Dyer County Humane Society. The shelter is located at 1120 East Court Street, Dyersburg, Tennessee. Their phone number is (731)285-4889. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Adoption fees are $50 for dogs and $40 for cats.
Joe is ID#63979. There is more information on his Facebook thread.
Please share Joe’s story. Sharing his story with family, friends and social media contacts is a way to help Joe find a family who will take him in or a rescue that will pull him. Without adoption or rescue, Joe will die in the shelter never having known a home with a soft bed and loving hands. Please help make that come true for him.
