Long Islanders came out in droves this past weekend to enjoy one of the largest celebrations in Suffolk County – the Sayville Summerfest. Complete with games, rides, delicious foods and vendors selling all types of merchandise, this festival was sure to please both children and adults alike.
As you made your way through the festival grounds, a large amount of jewelry vendors, clothing for women and children, small toys, kitchen items and even a children’s author were all on hand selling their wares. The festival spanned out in four directions, with different attractions in each area.
Once you reached the far end of the festival from the entrance, you could hear music coming from the grassy field. A guitar player entertained people as a food truck filled with empanadas, including such mouth-watering delights as shrimp and mango, was on hand for those who needed a lunch break.
The opposite end of the festival housed all the carnival rides and games. Parents looking to take their children on a little adventure could spend the afternoon here. A rock band played over here and picnic tables were available to sit and have your lunch. Other food vendors had stands set up, including gyros and tacos. If you were looking for something a bit more nutritious, one could buy an Acai Bowl, complete with granola, honey, strawberries, blueberries, bananas and coconut. Even a half a pound was enough to fill a hungry appetite without weighing you down.
True artisans were selling their wares, too, including intricately designed, handcrafted glass beads. These were colorful, delicate and true works of art.
Perhaps you wanted a little something to beautify the outside of your home? You could buy a solar light in the shape of a flower, frog or turtle to stick in the ground. It captures the sun during the day and lights up in four different colors at night. Even if you can’t see it from your window, your neighbors can!
Various stores in the vicinity were open as well. If you wanted to take a break from the festival, you could do a little shopping at the local chocolate shop, or get a bite to eat at a sit down restaurant. It was a perfect way to rejuvenate for a few minutes before making your way back to the exit.
Best of all, the weather held out and made for a perfect day. The sunshine, fresh air and good vibes turned a regular summer day into a vacation day. Whether you bought anything, ate anything or just roamed around and took in the sights, the Sayville Summerfest was a terrific way to enjoy your summer vacation.
