Ubisoft announced today that the PS4, Xbox One, and PC will soon fall victim to a zombie apocalypse. According to a statement made on the official Ubisoft blog on July 30, the former Wii U exclusive, Zombi U, will find itself reanimated for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC with some new extras, but it will also be missing some content. Zombi, its new name, will be available as a digital download on Aug. 18. Ubisoft has yet to announce a price for the game.
Zombi U is considered by many to be one of the finest survival-horror games to ever see release. Though it was met with mixed review scores when it launched on Wii U, those that played the game found it be one of the best launch games for the console. With the game now coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, it gives a wider audience of gamer a chance to experience this unique horror experience.
One of the reasons that Zombi is such a terrifying experience is how it creates a sense and feel of desperation. Resources are limited, zombies populate the game’s world, and you never know where or when you’ll find a new weapon, ammo, or first-aid. You have to approach scenarios with caution and plan your attack. Playing recklessly will only lead to your death, and that is something you’ll want to avoid. When you die, you will come back as a new character, but with extremely limited resources. Your previous character will become a zombie and carry your previous stash of weapons, ammo, and aid, so find your previous self and kill it as quickly as possible.
Zombi features a few updates over its Zombi U roots. With the jump to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, the game’s gameplay has been refined and the graphics have received an upgrade. There are two new melee weapons – a shovel and a nail bat. Zombi will be lacking Zombi U’s single-console multiplayer. Hélène Henry, Zombi’s producer, said that the team decided to “focus on the solo mode, as we believe this is where the ZombiU experience really lay.”
Ubisoft will release Zombi in the coming weeks. You can several screenshots of the game in our media gallery.
