The human spirit manifests itself in many forms and fashions. This includes disruptive technologies that can illuminate life’s perennial principles and ultimate truths.
u-ber-enn-ial; noun: referring to an individual from a group/demographic of consumers; independent of income and irrespective of race, religion, gender, education and age. Consumption patterns are guided by the following tenets:

Primary over-arching influencers include Access, Connectivity and Integration.
Consistent with global trends, the Twin Cities expanding demand for UBER and its ilk (ride-sharing tech platforms which connect willing parties) is revealing the behavioral evolution of a growing and diversified group of consumers. The perceivable rumble from the UBER phenomenon emanates from a disruptive technology crashing head-on into pent-up, dis-satisfaction. In this instance, the old guard taxi model serves as the drum; being banged to provide uberennials their marching cadence.
With sub-themes like “peer-to peer”, “collaborative experience” and “sharing economy”, a new version of capitalism is taking form. Invigorated by the progression of both cognitive and spiritual human development, the desire for greater personal interaction between service provider and client is paramount.
Intuited by both parties is the concept of karma. In its general sense; that which goes around comes around. In demand now is a reconstructed exchange to better accommodate this intersection of technology with humanity. Uberennials pursue an experience with the expectation it will work well. Then, it should work well again. And again… while doing no harm.
They ‘move the spider‘; literally and figuratively, instead of mindlessly smashing it.
Founded in 2009, U.S. based UBER (a German word for over) has achieved massive acceptance in a very short time. With a valuation exceeding $40B, operations exist in 58 countries and 300 cities throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the U.S.
At the bookends, UBER/ride sharing may simply be about getting somewhere cheaper, faster and easier. Revealed in the essential verses in between is something much more than just the intellectual, rational elements at play. Unveiled is a societal consciousness that originates at the spiritual level and driven by the primal need for satisfying man’s sense of connection; one’s place on the grand web of life. This is the true UBER appeal on a universal level. There lays the spiritual nerve that has been breathed upon.
Uberennials are not so much a new or distinct segment as they are a transcendent group composed from all. They are not the next ‘flavor of the month’. In fact, uberennials, by definition, integrate cognitive and spiritual aspects of all the other demographic categories including seniors, millennials, boomers, X’ers, etc. A freer, enabled and more enlightened consumer is the result.
Uberennials are quintessential ‘over-archers’. They are Bridgers and Connectors. Rarely do those at the very core of a paradigm shift fully comprehend their role. It’s the “forest from the trees” affect. Those who benefit from expanded perspective and spiritual development are able to see through the woods.
Regardless, most are receptive to discourse and quick to grasp the nuance and subtleties of their pathfinder activity. With minimal prompting, conversation can be engaged on topic. Regarding authenticity; they know it when they hear it. Or better put; feel it. Uberennials are by nature and spirit, inquisitive. They desire to engage, consistent with their personality. Many are receptive to more existential issues; especially on spiritual topics, than they are often aware. With little prompting, from either side of an uberennial transaction, the human connectivity is apparent; by virtue of the shared experience.
The author can attest to these observations with anecdote and first-hand knowledge. From experience accumulated over 987 ride-share runs provided in the Charlotte and Minneapolis-St. Paul markets, interaction from over 2000 passengers during a six-month period. Frequently, conversation and discussion on topic continued well past the rider’s arrival to their destination. It was not uncommon to extend into ‘hours’; particularly when the author’s area of study (Personal Growth and Spirituality) was revealed. Clearly, this was not especially conducive to maximizing profitability in the short-run for the author.
Marketers, product developers, even governments and politicians are coming to acknowledge uberennials as a valuable and powerful cohort. The key to accessing this group, which is inspired from an inner desire for access and connection, is to recognize the deepest source of this desire. Simply using a ride-share app does not make one an uberennial. Conversely, many uberennials will never use a ride share service.
Uberennials are arriving at an awareness of their ultimate ‘ride-share app’. It is animated via their spirituality, providing the vehicle to a happier, enlightened life. Driven by an integration of both intellectual and spiritual energies in the collective consciousness, this represents a tipping point of our capitalistic system as we know it today.

From conversation with passenger en route home, John R:
“Gary, the connectivity angle is the purest description of UBER I’ve ever heard. You got to capture that and remind the rest of us….”
Spoken as a true uberennial.
