On Sunday, September 27, 2015 hundreds of runners will line up for the startof a 5K race wearing colorful Tutus for a very good cause. It is the second annual Tutu 5K to be held at the Wall Municipal Complex located at 2700 Allaire Road in Wall Township, New Jersey.

Rescue Ridge is a local animal shelter here at the Jersey Shore making possible the adoption of hundreds of abandoned or neglected animals. It is in the process of raising funds to buy its own animal shelter and the 5K event will help contribute to that cause.
The event is being directed by Karen Charles of Wall Township a coach at the RunCollege which is staging the event. Karen is also a dedicated volunteer at Rescue Ridge volunteering during the week looking after the animals at the shelter. According to Karen, “The event is open to men and women and we hope that we get more men to come out as it will be a lot of fun for all”. Mary Beth Tkach of Point Pleasant, New Jersey the head of Rescue Ridge will be there along with many Rescue Ridge volunteers cheering the participants on their way and helping to make for afun filled day..
In addition to the 5K there will also be a one mile walk so all can participate and show their support. The one mile walk will start at 9 a.m. and the 5k will start at 9:30 a.m. over a USATF Certified course. The first 22 male and female finishers will get awards as well as random finishers. To qualify for an award the participants must wear a Tutu. After the 5K there will be awards for the Tutu King and Queen to be awarded to the best looking Tutu. The winners will be crowned appropriately. A post-race party will be held at the nearby Spring Lake Tap House where there will be specials and some surprises for all.
In last year’s inaugural event Ethan Rouen of New York City was first overall in a time of 18:56. He was followed for the men by Robert Jaeger of Marlboro in 21:49 and then Mike Wshakowski of Ocean Township in 21:12 to round out the top three for the men in tutus. For the women it was Kim Martineau of New York City finishing second overall in a time of 19:45. Women also claimed the third and fourth top positions with Kathy Kropke of Avon finishing in a time of 20:53 followed by Erin Weber also of Avon in 21:32. Holding the finish tape for the winners were the Valvo sisters of Wall Township, New Jersey.
For the winners Ethan and Kim it was a true celebration as the husband and wife not only garnered the top positions they were celebrating their wedding anniversary. Mary Beth Tkach the head of Rescue Ridge who thanked all the participants.
To assure a t shirt and Tutu participants should register sign up soon as the field will be limited. Participants will all receive a great looking Tutu in a variety of colors to include: rainbow, zebra, pink and green.
