Two men were shot to death when they allegedly attempted to break into an apartment Monday morning in McDonough. Police believe the shooting happened in self-defense.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. inside the building 2900 at the Sable Chase Apartments, according to Henry County police. Officers responded to the scene after someone called 911 to report a robbery and a person shot, police spokesman Capt. Joey Smith said.
When officers arrived, they located one deceased male suspect inside the home, Smith said. They found a second deceased subject in a field behind the complex, Smith said.
“The 911 caller advised that more than one suspect had broken into the home during a robbery attempt and one or more of the suspects had been shot,” Smith said.
Stanley Babb told police he was watching television news when three men armed with guns entered his second-floor apartment from the balcony, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Babb had his hands in the air, when his roommate grabbed a gun and fired several shots, killing two of the suspects, the paper reported.
“I just had three guys break in on me,” Babb told a 911 operator, the AJC reported. “One of them’s shot. I don’t know how many others got shot. I need the cops quick.”
One of the suspects was bleeding on the foyer floor, and by the time officers arrived, the man was dead, Smith said. Detectives were interviewing the apartment occupants to verify their story as well as interviewing other apartment residents to determine exactly what happened. So far, police have not identified the two who were found deceased.
