They’re not exactly part of the top tier of TV celebrity chefs, but personalities from Spike TV and the Food Network no doubt will help draw people to the Saratoga Wine & Food Festival. The annual extravaganza is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, September 11-13, at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Ellie Krieger of Food’s “Healthy Appetite” will host the Grand Tasting and Concours D’Elegance, the centerpiece of the festival. Josh Capon of Spike’s “Frankenfood” will host the festival’s grill competition.
Here’s the festival schedule, with most events inviolving food and drink sampling for attendees:
Adirondack Road Tour & Gourmet Luncheon ($75, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, September 11) — A professionally-led 90-minute road rally for auto collectors on backroads, ending at the Lake George Club, where a gourmet lunch includes library-quality wines and imported foods.
Fired Up! Grill Competition ($85, 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, September 11): Five local chefs vs. five New York City grillmasters. The locals will represent Angelo’s 677 Prime, Druthers Brewing Company, Hattie’s, Henry Street Taproom, and Mingle Saratoga. The New York City chefs will represent Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse, Black Iron Burger, Dukes Original Roadhouse, and Milk Burger.
Grand Tasting and Concours d’Elegance ($75, or $175 for VIP admission, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 12) — All guests will have the opportunity to sample a variety of foods from more than 30 Capital Region chefs, plus cocktails, wines and beers. wines and spirits with a regional emphasis. In addition, the Saratoga Automobile Museum will present a show of luxury collector cars including classes of Shelby Cobra, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari, Lamborghini, among others. There will be culinary demonstrations throughout the afternoon by Krieger, Ric Orlando of New World Bistro, and Zak Pelaccio of Hudson’s Fish & Game, followed by a book signing with Krieger.
In the Groove Jazz Brunch ($75, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, September 13) — Food will be served at the Saratoga National golf course with food from six Mazzone Hospitality restaurants. The brunch will include live jazz, specialty cocktails, and best-in-show auto awards.
