I think this is probably the fastest blog post I have ever written. Most times I need at least a few days to test an item, see how I feel about it, and then write a thoughtful review. Not with this product! I just received TribeTats 2 hours ago in the mail and it was instant love! These are all the rage now — metallic stick on tattoos, that give a girl an extra sparkle. They are so fun — especially in summer, when you have a nice tan going.
Here is my conversation with TribeTats CEO, Degelis Tufts — a local girl from Massachusetts!
1.) Tell me a little bit about yourself and your connection to Massachusetts?
I grew up in Nahant, MA and attended Swampscott High School, and while I live in New York City currently my entire family still lives on the Northshore. I graduated from the undergraduate business school at UVA in 2008 with majors in Finance and International Business. After school, I worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at J.P. Morgan (2008-2010 in NYC) and then as a Senior Research Associate at Sands Capital Management (2010-2013, Washington D.C.). I covered Global Consumer Investments at Sands, which led to a fascination with e-commerce and the prospects of selling directly to consumers on social media. After leaving Finance, I worked closely with the founders of two different startups (TopShelf Clothes 2013-2014 and Instafluence 2014-2015), laying the groundwork for the operational skill set I needed to launch TribeTats.
2.) Where did the inspiration from TribeTats come from and how did you get your start?
To me, this product represents the intersection of jewelry, tattoos and body art. I’ve always loved the way subtle, feminine tattoos look, but haven’t been willing to make the lifetime commitment, so this is a great compromise!
3.) Did you foresee this trend and jump on it or do you feel you did your part in creating this trend?
We saw early versions of metallic tattoos coming out, and decided to upgrade the product category by creating a higher quality product. I think we have helped to extend the trend by introducing something nicer that can appeal to more women.
4.) Who is your typical customer?
While our core customer is a trendy, young fashionista, customers send us photos of their 5-year old daughters or even their grandmas rocking TribeTats. That has been one of the biggest surprises for me since starting the company – how broad the appeal has been.
5.) Describe the diverse options in your collection.
Each Collection comes with a variety set of four sheets, organized by where you wear them on your body — Bracelets, Armbands, Body Decals and Necklaces/Rings. While each Collection has a theme, they are all versatile and can be worn for a variety of occassions — to the beach, concert, out at night, or just with your every day jewelry. We offer designs in Gold, Silver, Black and Rose Gold, a customer favorite.
6.) Give us some tips on wearing TribeTats!
Absolutely! Some of my favorite creative ways to wear TribeTats include using a bracelet up and down your spine (example HERE), using armbands as anklets (especially for a run or working out, example HERE), putting anywhere decals on your feet in between the straps of your sandals (example HERE). Follow us on instagram (@tribetats) for more inspiration!
7.) For more information or to purchase where should we go?
You can purchase at www.tribetats.com — we offer 30% off your first purchase and free shipping — since this is a new product for many, we want to incentivize people to try it out because we know they’ll love it! :)
