To wear or not to wear that is the question. When it comes to pastels there’s always a flurry of debate as to whether or not donning pastels beyond the spring is a fashion no-no. And so one must ask the lingering question for the summer; is are wearing pastels outside of the spring an okay thing? It wasn’t too log ago that no one would be caught dead in a pastel number if it were say, November–however things have changed. Designers recent use of the ethereal hues for both fall and summer collections is steadily changing that.
Fall collections as recent as 2012 have included the delicate tones creating a mesmerizing contrast to the customary dark hues that define the fall. One designer who demonstrated the breakthrough style ingenuity is Giorgio Armani. Armani’s fall/winter ’14 collection and his subsequent ad campaign all featured ambitious pastel favorings perfectly aligned on eye catching fall garments. From a designer’s standpoint this was a risk worth taking, as other houses quickly followed suit including Reed Krakoff, Tibi and Prada.
Next stop for pastels Summer ’15. Pastels for the summer are currently trending. When it boils down to the newly incorporated summer trend, a back thought may rise up: what makes it any different from wearing pastels in the spring? Well, for starters the fabrics are lighter and thus a little more revealing–it would be easier to wear a pastel bathing suit in the summer than it would be during the spring. These ‘summer pastels’ are well, suited for the summer. For summer collections designers were unwavering in their usage of pastel designs, pastels were featured on summer wear for Carolina Herrera, Narcisco Rodriguez and Loewes.
