Saturday, September 12, 9 a.m. 10K, Brielle Day 10K, Brielle, New Jersey
It will be the 35th running of this popular event which takes place on Brielle Day and has the unofficial motto, “It never rains on Brielle Day”. 10K’s have come and gone during that time but the organizers of the Brielle 10K have kept true to the tradition. Jack and Diane Cheer of Wall Township are again the co race directors. The course is a challenging one through the neighborhoods of Brielle. It includes several steep hills to include one at about the quarter mile mark and several others during the course of the 6.2 mile run. Runners do enjoy a fast downhill before they enter into the park and the finish line.
The race always attracts a tough field and some pretty fast times for the 10K course which has remained pretty much the same over the years with a modification several years ago due to a change in the flow of traffic on the adjoining Route 70. The course records are held by (current course): Brock Butler 33:07 (2003) and the event record (original course) by Philip Hinck 30:33 (1988). There are awards for top finishers, five year age groups and awards to the top Brielle residents. There will also be lots of random prize drawings – but remember you must be present to win. Afterwards many of the participants stroll around one of the largest craft fairs in the area or just relax at the adjoining beer garden. There will be specials for the runners to include $1.00 beers.
