The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Oakland Raiders 20-12 despite severe thunderstorm and tornado threats throughout the evening at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. on August 22, 2015.
Teddy Bridgewater coming into his own
Vikings QB #5 Teddy Bridgewater calls an audible as he leads the Vikings offense. Bridgewater has been gaining confidence and appears to be confident in reading defenses and going through his progressions as he looks for open receivers. Look for Teddy this year.
Matt Kalil – looking to prove critics wrong
Vikings T #75 Matt Kalil blocks Raiders LB #52 Khalil Mack, looking more confident and quick on his feet this year. Kalil looked good against one of the more promising defensive ends in the NFL.
Vikings’ QB Teddy Bridgewater is gaining rhythm with his receivers. Kyle Rudolph was the recipient of this pass, but Bridgewater is putting the ball where the receivers can catch it. Unfortunately, against the Raiders, there were several dropped balls.
Harrison “Harry the Hitman” Smith is emerging as a leader on the team. He offered the referees a play-by-play commentary on a play that was under review. Unfortunately the officials did not see it the way Smith did.
The wind was swirling throughout TCF Bank Stadium, causing problems on and off the field. Cheerleaders dealt with hair in their face all evening.
Vikings TE #86 Chase Ford makes a leaping catch and manages to hang on despite being nastily upended in the end zone as the Minnesota Vikings defeat the Oakland Raiders on a rainy August 22, 2015 at TCF Bank Stadium.
Vikings WR #19 Adam Thielen goes up for a catch while Raiders CB #21 Dexter McDonald rushes in to minimize the damage. Thielen has grown into a utility player (special teams especially) that may be moving up the receiving depth chart as well.
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has the team operating as one unit despite having a very difficult first year as a head coach in 2014. With many key returning players, and with star running back Adrian Peterson back, Zimmer hopes the team can dig deeper into the playbook and turn heads this year.
The return of Christian Ponder
Christian Ponder returned to Minneapolis, this time wearing silver and black. No problem for fans who mercilessly heckled the former Vikings’ first round draft pick as he drove down the field for a touchdown after the rain delay. Pictured here, Ponder takes a knee at halftime.
The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders and Minnesota Vikings Junior Cheerleaders performed a joint routine in the two minute long halftime show. The game was delayed about an hour due to lightning and the officials decided to make that the halftime break.
