Boston Calling Music Festival was filled with memorable moments that went beyond the lineup. Here are the top ten memorable moments of Boston Calling in no particular order.
St. Vincent’s Robotic Moves: St. Vincent’s talent was obvious to anyone in City Hall Plaza on Saturday. Her robotic choreography and musical trance straight into the crowd was jaw dropping.
The Lone Bellow’s Sound Check: It was rare to see any acts sound checking during the festival but The Lone Bellow was the exception. Gorillaz played in the background as mandolin player and vocalist, Kanene Doheney Pipkin, harmonized, singing along with her velvety voice.
The Families: Boston Calling has prided itself on being a family friendly event. There were infants in Baby Bjorns with over-sized headphones on and other children a bit older blowing bubbles and dancing along side their parents.
Pixies Deja Vu: Fans were confused then stoked to hear “Wave of Mutilation” not once but twice during Pixies’ set.
The Light Show: It’s incredible to have a full scale musical festival in the middle of downtown Boston. The incredible light show that took place in City Hall Plaza during Boston Calling was truly magical.
Girl Power: There have been female acts at Boston Calling in years past but there was something about the women of this year’s Boston Calling that screamed girl power.
The Opening of the Gates: On all three days it was an unforgettable sight to see the gates open at Boston Calling. The practically empty City Hall Plaza filled up quickly with swarms of running fans.
“Riptide” Sing-A-Long: Vance Joy truly radiated joy to all of his fans at Boston Calling. “Riptide” has become a springtime anthem and that was evident by practically all of the twenty thousand attendees singing along.
Generosity: Becky Mitchell, Chipotle Marketing Strategist, reported that Chipotle donated food to all the volunteers of the festival and the artists. Press photographers were observed giving food and water to the hardcore fans that stood all day against the barricade. Music definitely brings out the best in people.
Announcement Video: Watching the announcement video on a massive screen for Boston Calling’s September 2015 lineup was exhilarating to say the least. Fans were spotted making eye contact with one another, smiling and screaming with delight.
