When the term “top flight” is used, certain images come to mind. One of the main ones is an event that is considered of a high quality, complete with great activities, people, and supporting a great cause. In the case of the Atlanta-based Pi Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., their upcoming event encompasses the aforementioned.
On Saturday, November 15, 2015, from 5-8pm, the chapter is hosting its inaugural TopGolf Invitational. Taking place at TopGolf Atlanta Midtown (1600 Ellsworth Industrial NW in Atlanta), the event is open to golfers of all skill levels, as well as non-golfers for an evening of networking, complete with food, music, and door-prizes for those in attendance, all of which are focused on support for the chapter’s community endeavors.
“This is the last week for purchasing your ticket; we look forward to seeing everyone and having a great time”, notes Shomari Sanford (the chapter’s vice-president) in our discussion from earlier today (November 2, 2015). With ticket options including individual and couples’ tickets, VIP bays, and sponsorship packages, it provides multiple options for multiple groupings to help provide a mature yet high-spirited atmosphere (click HERE to view all ticket and sponsorship options). As an added bonus, a portion of the proceeds are supporting the chapter’s community endeavors; this includes support for programs including their “Go to High School, Go to College” educational programming, as well as their mentoring academy in working with young people (in middle and high school).
Since the chapter’s inception on January 6, 1989, it has a solid-standing record of providing service, leadership, and advocacy in the immediate community which is part of their servicing area (in the Riverdale and South Atlanta area). Concurrent with the larger fraternity (which is established on December 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University in Ithica, NY), its commitment to the community is ever-present. With prominent members including (but not limited to) Martin Luther King, Jr, Andrew Young, Maynard Jackson, along with contemporary figures such as Stuart Scott, David Scott, Derrick Boazman, and others across the fields of business and education (among other fields), the members of the chapter do their part in being the best community resources possible. The invitational is another example of hosting an adult yet mature and engaging event, yet never losing sight of investing in the lives of those in the community.
A top flight event hosted by a top flight organization, with the potential for “top-flight” investment in the general populace. It is an example of what the members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are all about; in this case, the Pi Gamma Lambda Chapter is providing just one of many examples of what level of investment takes place throughout the metro-Atlanta area.
