The air compressor forms an essential asset of factories, shops or garages. This device works by building up a pressure of air and then powers certain tools. However, purchasing an industrial air compressor could be a big investment.
People may find it difficult to find purchasing one quite challenging. The reason behind being there are lot many types of compressors available in the market. Individuals get a wide variety of options to select from.
And before you purchase an industrial air compressor, you should be careful and may follow the guide below so that you don’t end up making a wrong investment.
The different things you should consider at the time of buying the product are as follows:
- Air: Speed and volume
The air power is measured through PSI and CFM. PSI measures air pressure and CFM measures volume of air. You need to decide both the above mentioned requirements of your tool. For single tool use, CFM should be 1.25times greater and PSI should be equal or greater to the above. Whereas for multi-tool use, CFM is ideally 1.25 times greater than the sum of both the tools and PSI remains the same.
- Size of the tank
The size of the air compressor tank affects two things: max CFM and the max running time. Every compressor lists down the max CFM. The tank and CFM have a direct proportion. If the CFM is big, the tank also automatically becomes big. And if this tank is big, then the running time of the compressor will become longer. It does not require to be refilled.
Thus, the capacity of the tank is what decides the compressor’s weight and the price as well.
Another thing that needs to be kept in mind is whether the compressor is movable or portable. There are portable as well as stationery compressors available in the market. But there lies a disadvantage of purchasing portable compressors. In this category of devices, the power tends to move in the opposite direction. So before you make a move, decide will mobility pose an advantage or a disadvantage for you?
- Single or two stage
There are generally two categories of compressors: single and two stage compressors. The single stage compressors work on single stroke. Air is compressed just once to reach its final pressure. While two stage compresses air twice to reach its final pressure. Two stage compressors thus have the capacity to generate more power and are less expensive as well. So, if you have higher power requirements, you should opt a two stage compressor.
- Source of Power
These compressors are available with two sources of power: one the electric and the other gas source. The electric ones are supposed to be clean and environment safe. They can be used indoors as well as outdoors. On the other hand, the gasoline is affordable and a counterpart of the electric ones. However they can’t be used indoors.
These machines are usually very noisy. But, with the growth of technology, noise levels have gone down as well. These days there are devices which have reduced noise levels.
