What is your purpose in life? Why do you get out of bed? Who do you do it for? Whatever “it” is that you do what purpose does it serve and who benefits from your purpose.
Reflecting on purpose can lead to enlightenment. Life is merely what we make it so daily activities literally defines purpose. When one thinks about how life is truly and sincerely nothing more than exactly what we act upon in thought and physical activity each day…one may conclude that they are truly serving their purpose or one may conclude that daily, they may not be serving what they believe their purpose is, was or should be.
An anonymous employee of NASA shared that their mind was so focused on energy, life and dimensions outside of Earth that they began to feel that their purpose would better be served outside of Earth. Meanwhile, millions of other humans would not fathom purpose beyond their residence, city or state.
An anonymous gentlemen shared that when his father died, he accompanied his mother and sister to the burial site of his father. The gentleman shared that his mother reminded his sister and him that the spaces besides his father were reserved for all three of their lives whenever their lives ended. The gentlemen says that when he walked away, he thought about the space between the life he was now living and the time when he would take his position next to his father; He was not okay with his purpose in that moment and to date, he feels like he would like to do much more than merely work to eat and sustain the necessities of life.
The question now becomes what is stopping one from their purpose? What stops an individual from pursuing activities that help them find their purpose.
It should be noted that ones purpose has to extend beyond the labors of life; Purpose is and must be more than merely keeping ones head above water.
It is great to enjoy a life of labor that also serves our purpose but is this possible the way current dynamics between employer and employee relationships are…the current atmosphere between manager and employee etc?. Do these chain of commands allow for the sense of autonomy required for one to identify their purpose and if so, does it allow for one to serve it?
In speaking more specific to the Black community (while we know and understand that issues spoken herein are overall issues in/of humanity) their position within the economy whereby the unemployment rate might be described as predatory; The likelihood that said individuals are able to position themselves in a place of comfort where the mind is allowed to focus on something other than the next bill and/or how the household will put food on the table is slim to non. Thus, it is fair to say that these individuals may never find the ease of mind to even take time to contemplate what they may define as their purpose.
In summation the question now becomes this:
Does the current state of society allow for one to relax the mind enough to reflect on life itself and/or their life’s purpose? Or, does the routine pay check to pay check scenario cloud the psyche to the point where the average human mind rarely thinks beyond the commercials they watch on evening television and/or the non-substance superficial conversations exchanged with neighbor’s and co-workers who are too exhausted to really think and act beyond that which generates currency.
It might be fair to say that money is the primary purpose of most American’s and that would be just fine one can conclude, if money was not used to merely sustain the purpose of a tiny percentage of the population and their purpose which usually consists of expanding their minds, expanding their value, expanding their family and establishing power over others.
Is performing labor or any other task done for the purpose of being appealing to the eye of others? Do you think of only material values and your ability to obtain them as your primary purpose? Have you asked yourself these questions? Does your purpose exist outside of life as you currently know and understand it? Do you perform task for the purpose of having some reward such as everlasting life or some other form of favor?
Here are some questions worth the mind time: Do you think you could convince the now popular Michael Kors to purchase a garment that you make/design for more than one hundred dollars? Do you think you could convince Michael Jordan to purchase a shoe that you make for two hundred dollars? Do you believe that Ann Taylor would purchase a dress or any other garment from your person for the price of her own? Why or why not? Why and how do you think these people were able to convince you to do so? Would you purchase an item your neighbor made at the said prices? Why or why not?
This returns us to the initial question proposed…what is your purpose?
