The Who announced today they have rescheduled the dates for their The Who Hits 50 North American tour, which had been postponed to allow Roger Daltrey time to recover from a bout of viral meningitis. The Who Hits 50 2016 dates will kick-off February 27 in Detroit, MI, and include stops in Toronto, New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, before wrapping up May 29 in Las Vegas. The rescheduled shows will include all dates from the cancelled fall 2015 leg of the tour. The Washington, DC, Verizon Center event will be held on March 24, 2015.
The first leg of the tour received critical acclaim. Roger Daltrey says, “I am now on the mend and feeling a lot better.” “We will be starting our rescheduled shows in February and will be coming back stronger than ever!” added Pete Townshend.
If you have tickets for the originally scheduled concerts they will be honored at the new dates. The Who Hits 50 tour is presented by AEG Live. Tickets and VIP packages for dates are available at The Who’s website here. Citi is the official credit card of The Who Hits 50 tour and members be able to purchase tickets for the U.S. dates through Citi’s Private Pass Program. For more details visit the Citi website here.
The Who have sold over 100 million records since they first formed in 1964. The band ended up bringing together four distinct personalities and created a musical hurricane. Every one of the band members was a pioneer in one way or another. Original drummer Keith Moon was a wildman and beat his kit with chaotic elegance. Their late, great, bassist John Entwistle held his own in the center with the melodic virtuosity of a solo guitarist. Pete Townshend’s brilliant song writing was interposed with his windmill slamming of fingers across guitar strings. Roger Daltrey’s voice roared above it all, reverberating with macho swagger. The band experimented with conventional rhythm and blues structures and challenged the conventions of Pop Music. The Who redefined what was possible on stage and in the recording studio. As the band enters their 50th year in the industry, The Who is still going strong and receiving rave reviews.
