When the original Sharknado hit the SyFy channel in 2013 nobody could have expected the storm that was really coming. SyFy has been churning out these kinds of films for years, but something about this one stood out so much that it got a brief theatrical release and spawned a sequel. As expected, the 2014 follow up was even crazier and the fans loved it so it was no surprise that another one was on the way. Now Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! is here, but can it keep the ridiculous fun of the series intact or will it sink to the bottom of the ocean?
Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! follows a monstrous tornado that unleashes ravenous sharks from Washington, D.C., all the way down to Orlando, Florida. Both Ian Ziering and Tara Reid return along with some new additions to the cast including Bo Derek, Frankie Muniz, David Hasselhoff and a slew of cameos. The story is as ridiculous as ever and they make sure to play it up as serious as they can which is why this thing works. With every chapter they seem to go even further into insane directions and this one is no different. From the moment the film starts they make sure to not waste any time in getting to what the fans want. The opening action sequence with Ian Ziering alongside Mark Cuban as the President of the United States is both hilarious and bloody good fun and sets the tone for the rest of the nonsense this film has to offer. This time around they take the action to varying locations to make it feel even better including an out of this world climax that has to be seen to believe. They took a smart route of not only keeping the original cast, but not only brought in numerous new characters, but also one to connect it to the original film that makes it all the more entertaining. As with the previous films the CGI is good enough for what you want in this series and you cannot help but cheer for the goofy fun ways they use the flying sharks to kill.
This is one of those series that has brought together people who do not normally care either way about these kinds of silly film and shows no signs of the weather letting up. They have enough confidence in this entry that the film ended on a moment that you get to vote on for the fate of one of the characters in the forthcoming Sharknado 4 that will no doubt take it to the next ridiculous nature. If you missed it, there is no doubt it will be playing numerous times on SyFy so be sure to get in on the fun. If you haven’t seen the previous films have no fear you don’t really need to, but it does make it a lot more fun and they are both available on Blu-ray and DVD now.
