By The Numbers:
This week’s episode of The Voice may have inspired some feelings of deja vu. Two of the ten songs had already been covered in past seasons of the show, and a third was originally recorded by one of the season nine battle round advisors.
Jeffery Austin opened the show with “Jealous,” which is a song by Labrinth and should not be confused with the song of the same name by Nick Jonas and covered multiple times on The Voice, most notably by season seven finalist Chris Jamison of Team Adam. Jonas also performed the song himself during the same season.
Jordan Smith is the latest artist to cover Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Team Adam’s finalist Joshua Davis covered the song in season eight just six months ago. Matthew Schuler also performed the song while with Team Christina two years ago, and the entire body of artists and coaches sung it as a tribute to the Newtown shooting victims.
Korin Bukowski’s song choice, “Same Old Love,” is from the album Revival by Selena Gomez, who served as Bukowski’s battle round advisor this season when she worked with all of Team Gwen.
Meanwhile, Zach Seabaugh’s selection, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” plays perfectly into the numerous Elvis references he’s received since breaking out his dance moves earlier in the live playoffs.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
