Now is the time to head down south where bathing suits are always in style. The temperatures just started sizzling as Palm Beach gets ready to welcome Palm Beach Swim Week. Although incredible collections will not be unveiled until November 5, 2015, activities are already underway, giving a preview into what we can look forward to seeing.
On Thursday, October 22, 2015, the media was treated to a sneak peek at some of the hot new trends in swimwear and an opportunity to meet and interview the designers soon to be showcasing their originality in design. The paparazzi flashed their cameras as the models, designers and elite guest list walked the Red Carpet and a special thanks went out to Aqua Plastic Surgery/Prado Spa & Salon/Premier Dental Care in downtown West Palm Beach for hosting the evening’s event.
On Saturday, October 24, 2015, a launch party was held from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Table 427 in the historic district of Northwood in West Palm Beach. Guests were introduced to what is in store for them during four fabulous days at Palm Beach Swim Week which takes place from November 5 through November 8, 2015. This weekend winds down on Sunday, October 25, 2015, as a Fashion & Art Auction is held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Habitat Galleries on Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach. Local artists and designers graciously donated art, jewelry and accessories valued from $600 to $5,000 to be auctioned off. The proceeds earned from the auction will go to develop and expand a fashion district in Palm Beach County. The auction is being held by the Florida Fashion & Apparel Chamber of Commerce.
Palm Beach Swim Week is similar to a beacon drawing international fashion enthusiasts to its bright light, showing the world how much Palm Beach County has to offer in the realm of style. To get to this point, over 200 designers and 500 models have applied to become participants in this outstanding event. “Designers from Milan, Rio, Jeddah, Riga, India, and London, from New York to California, have applied for Palm Beach Swim Week fashion shows at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre,” says Lilyana Eisele, producer and chief operating officer of FUSION Fashion & Art.
Local designers will be in the spotlight, proving that fashion creativity blossoms in Palm Beach. “Palm Beach Fashion Swim Week will focus on swim, resort wear and accessories exclusively,” explains Eisele. “2015 is the maiden show in a five year fashion production series that will continue annually in the fall. Swim Week and the ongoing Palm Beach International Fashion Week focus primarily on Palm Beach talent and resources. Designers from the last year’s Fashion Week have gone on to design for Kenneth Cole, win Best Emerging Designer Award in Miami, have been featured in numerous publications and currently a to 3 finalist in the TODAY show’s Next Big Thing on NBC.”
The hand-picked designers for this year’s event have been seen in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Ocean Drive and Glamour in the UK. Up to 12 shows will be scheduled, of which more than half will be for emerging Palm Beach designers, all of which represent the Palm Beach tradition of quality and excellence, including Sandbar Collection, which was featured in the reality TV series Swimsuit Centerfold; art-to-wear accessory designer STScarves; Ellen Bryant; Mercedes Bournelli; mother/daughter team Poemä Swim; and couture jewelry designer Idalie Baudo, who was named “exclusive jewelry designer” for Palm Beach Swim Week 2015. Top designers from Orlando and New York will also be showing their finest collections this November.
On the final evening of the week’s activities, November 8, 2015, four pageant titles will be presented which include Miss Palm Beach Swim Week, Miss Palm Beach Fashion Week, Miss Florida Fashion and Miss Florida Fashion Model. Coinciding with Palm Beach Swim Week, the Palm Beach Photographic Centre will be offering a 3-day Live Runway & Studio Fashion Workshop with Betsy Hansen, a professional photographer who’s work is shown internationally in magazines, ad campaigns and on billboards. Hansen’s commercial and media clients are the well-known Wal-Mart, Nickelodeon, Walgreens, Tony Roma’s, Essence, AAA, Cigar Aficionado and The Times London.
This fun and fast-paced workshop will give participants the opportunity to photograph high fashion models one-on-one as they learn the best techniques to shoot both “Runway” style and in well-lit and upscale in-studio sessions. “Runway” is the extreme sport of fashion photographers and the upcoming Palm Beach Swim Week has already drawn the attention of national and international fashion photographers and press.
Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry, the same team that helped set the fashion week record last year, will be providing the new looks for the 2016 hair and makeup trends for all the Swim Week shows. CHROMA Salon & Spa, with owner Silvana, previously of Mercedes Benz Miami Swim Week, will be providing hair styling services for the shows. New York DJ Angel Negron will be creating unique music for the shows, all inspired by the Palm Beaches.
