Whether you’re in NYC for business, pleasure or looking for great drinks and tasty appetizer menu, its time to consider the new Cambria Hotel and Suites New York. Located in Chelsea (123 W 28th Street), the brand new hotel features a floral theme, which decorates the entire hotel. There’s nothing like the smell of everything new, new walls, kitchen, rooftop, appliances etc. The Cambria doesn’t necessarily give you “good cocktail vibes” but this is certainly the opposite and I was pleasantly surprised.
The Cambria hotel in NYC has great sized rooms and it’s in the middle of everything, not too far east, not too far west. The staff is uber friendly and they aim to please. I sat down and had a session with their bartender and did an unofficial cocktail and food pairing. First, I had the Maui Mule, which is Belvedere vodka, pineapple juice, fresh lemon juice and ginger ale, then the Mule was followed by the Blackberry Watermelon Mojito (my favorite) which was paired with another Cuban treat the Cubano “Mojo-Pork” Sandwich with Truffle French fries (pulled pork, swiss, ham, pickles, cilantro, and mojo aioli, on a crisp roll). The next drink was the ‘Triple C’ Cosmopolitan which uses Ketel One vodka, triple sec, lime, and cantaloupe juice, tasty drink and a great segway to the 3rd drink the Basil Gin Smash paired with the Buffalo Mozzarella & Vine Ripened Tomato (10 red onion, pesto and aged balsamic). The third dish was the Orecchiette & Jalapeño Shrimp (Tomato, Roasted Jalapeños, Garlic, Cream, and Clam Broth), the different ingredients work well together, from the garlic, to the cream sauce down to the roasted Jalapeños which gives the dish a slight kick but not overwhelming. The last pairing was the Roasted Mushroom & Tiny Meatball Saté (Mushroom Gravy and Pesto) and Spiced Apple Manhattan, which is made with Bulleit Rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, apple juice, cinnamon, and whiskey barrel aged bitters. The cinnamon and bitters in the drink work well the roasted mushroom and gravy.
NYC has wonderful lounges, amazing bars and rooftops and well as some great speakeasies with expert cocktail programs but sometimes as you stay in a hotel, its great to able to stay in and still have a great cocktail. There are too many hotels that would rather serve you rum and coke, which has its time and place but along with the cheesy club drinks its fun to know that the same bar can also create a great drink which can totally brighten up your day. The Cambria Hotel will completely surprise you with their ability to have some great bites and tasty cocktails as well as giving you brand new rooms, and a rooftop lounge. The only take back is although they have a gym, its small but good if you are not looking for an elaborate gym set up. If in the near future you find yourself looking for a place to stay in NY, go with a hotel that’s brand new, makes an amazing cubano sandwich as well as some really good drinks.
