Tex: “You keep eyeballing my side arm, I’m going to poke your damn eyes out.”
“Valkyrie” is the August 23 episode of “The Last Ship.” Warning: this article does contain spoilers. “The Last Ship” airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. CT on TNT.
We know how bad Sean and his cult are. They have on numerous occasions done terrible things to the Nathan James as well as unsuspecting civilians. We are trained to want to punch Sean Ramsey in the face every time he appears and opens his lying mouth. Sean and his people doing something horrendous aren’t shocking.
The American people attacking the oilrig with an RPG definitely had the shock value. Whenever the team was initially under attack, the initial assumption was that Sean had his people watching the rig, and when they saw Navy uniforms board it, they struck. Four soldiers died not by the hands of a crazy cult leader, but by American civilians.
Sean’s message was more powerful than expected. While we knew that there would be some fallout and everyone would most likely hate the Nathan James, this kind of casualty was unexpected. There wasn’t a desire to hold the Nathan James accountable for the crimes Sean wants everyone to believe they committed. No, the American people took the law into their own hands, which isn’t all that surprising.
The American people have shown how deadly they will be when faced with the Nathan James. This pain was unfortunately something that needed to be witnessed first hand. It’s difficult for anyone to believe that their country would turn on them, but now the Nathan James knows how grave of danger they are in.
Ravit’s death was by far the most upsetting. While Chung’s was also heart wrenching, we had just met Ravit. She was beginning to fit in, and we had seen her start to develop a romance with Burke. The fact that there was such an emotional reaction to the death of a recently added character is a testament to the writing.
However, did we have to kill her off? This ship doesn’t have a ton of female characters, especially not ones you can identify by name on site. Ravit was a badass character that we were actually getting a chance to know. Which death was the most upsetting to you?
Is anyone else already in love with Valerie Raymond? She’s a fierce, intelligent, and awesome woman. It was pretty obvious that she would eventually learn the truth and help out the Nathan James. There really isn’t any other way for the Nathan James to combat Sean’s smear campaign. What’s your impression of Valerie?
