Summer in the Vail Valley, warm sunny days, cool evenings, beautiful mountain scenery, when the snow melts, this mountain resort primarily known for winter sports becomes a vibrant summer destination featuring world class cultural experience along with a full range of athletic and culinary offerings.
The Vail International Dance Festival, now in its 26th season, brings fans together in this beautiful mountain setting to celebrate and share the joy of dance. Led by Artistic Director Damian Woetzel the festival is a two-week celebration of exceptional artistry, in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Dancers from around the globe come together to practice, dance, mix and share viewpoints, techniques, and influencing each others work. Modalities ranging from classical ballet to ballroom give audiences a rare opportunity to experience a wide range of music, and dance styles available at no other dance festival.
The 2015 festival will host 9 performances at the bucolic Gerald R Ford Amphitheater, 2 performances at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, a series of master classes and free interactive events in the streets of Vail at Solaris Plaza and Arrabelle Square, making this a town wide celebration.
The Tony Award-winning legend of tap, Savion Glover kicked off the Festival on July 27, with an electrifying performance, accompanied by his jazz quartet the Otherz. The dance continues with stellar performances throughout the two weeks.
Ballet Blast on August 2 featuring the Compañía Nacional de Danza de México for the first time, joined by Colorado Ballet, BalletX, a selection of international ballet stars, and another Festival newcomer, New York’s nascent BalletCollective – all brought together for a diverse evening of ballet, from classic to contemporary, with music by the cutting edge string quartet, Brooklyn Rider. The evening will feature choreography ranging from19th century classics, to celebrated new 21st century works. Among the highlights will be the debut of New York City Ballet dancer Tiler Peck in George Balanchine’s sublime Duo Concertant
August 4, NOW: Premieres features world premieres by a group of today’s most dynamic choreographers, including John Heginbotham, Pam Tanowitz, Silas Riener + Rashaun Mitchell, Matthew Neenan, and Lil Buck, with dancers from Dance Heginbotham, BalletX, artists from New York City Ballet, and several of the choreographers themselves. Brooklyn Rider will provide live musical accompaniment from their newest album, Almanac.
August 7 &8 will feature International Dance Evenings 1 and 2 with stars ranging from Charles “Lil Buck” Riley, to Isabella Boylston of the American Ballet Theatre, Linda Celeste Sims of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the acclaimed contemporary dance company Dance Heginbotham, to name just a few. These evenings promise to be an exciting evening with a dynamic mix of artist sharing the stage.
