My love affair with glossy lips began with my dads cherry flavored chapstick. Shortly after, I graduated to Carmex lip balm and I remember loving that tingly feel all over my puckered lips. Even still, I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to have perfectly painted lips like the teen stars I admired on my favorite TV shows.
Nothing has changed and I still love the final act of adding my lip liner, lipstick, and gloss. But let’s be honest, I am a mom now and the time I was previously able to spend putting on makeup has all but disappeared. My days really only allow for a quick swipe of lip gloss in my rearview mirror.
In my search for a new lip gloss, I began to notice that lip glosses were breaking out of the more common pink and purple mode with reality stars posting their navy blue lipped selfies all over Instagram. But where were they getting all of these magical, intensely pigmented colors? Finally, I discovered Gerard Cosmetics, the source for fabulous colors that will definitely jolt you out of a makeup rut.
Jen Gerard, creator of Gerard Cosmetics was first successful with Whitening Lightning, a brand that grew quickly and was hailed by popular celebrities. After the success of Whitening Lightning, Gerard decided to launch cosmetics under the same company.
After a tsunami of customers attempting to order her latest Color Your Smile Lip Gloss shade inspired by reality TV star Kylie Jenner temporarily crashed her website, she knew she had struck gold.
I decided to try the color Butter Cream and just to be adventurous a cool blue called Bahama. The name Butter Cream said it all. It glided on my lips in a buttery, smooth way and was a lovely creamy pink nude. It’s the ideal everyday color and would compliment almost any skin tone. Although pigmented, one coat was sheer enough to layer over any of my lipsticks.
One perk about these lip glosses that I loved were the mirror and tiny light that come on when you open the lip gloss. It would definitely come in handy for a quick application in a dimly lit environment.
Next, I tried the blue Bahama shade. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. It also had a smooth application, but it is probably not something I could pull off in the extremely conservative DC area at my age. However, I knew it would work for my fun weekend trips to New York City without fail.
The other remarkable thing about the Gerard Cosmetics is the color in the tube is exactly the color it appears on your lips. I expected the hue to be slightly toned down after applied, but my pout was the exact shade of pigmented blue.
Whether you are looking for easy everyday lip color or avant-garde selfie ready lacquer, Gerard’s Color Your Smile will definitely perfect your pout.
