Are you ready for a night at the theater? A haunted theatere that is—so you better prepare yourself for four nights of history and mystery at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
The Friends of the Orpheum Theater and the Phoenix Ghost Tours have teamed together to present a Ghost Tour of the Orpheum Theater October 28, 2015 through October 31, 2015. The tour is an hour long tour of the Orpheum and guests will hear some of the tales of ghosts that may still haunt the historic theater. All proceeds will benefit the preservation and history of the Orpheum Theater. Recent projects have included the purchase of assistive hearing devises for patrons use and educational programs for children to be able to experience the theater.
Guests will meet in the lobby area of this remarkable landmark theater in Phoenix. Your tour host, Joe Atredies of Phoenix Ghost Tours, will greet each group—giving them a bit of history of the showplace. The artwork in the facility is to ‘die’ for—and perhaps some of its past patrons and entertainers will agree! After all, many theaters around the world claim they have actors and patrons of the past still waiting for that last curtain call—and the Orpheum Theater has their share of mystery too.
This tour includes stories not often heard by the public, and a great opportunity to explore some areas of the Orpheum not normally accessible to the public. You don’t have to believe in ghosts to enjoy this incredible evening at the theater—but it adds to the fun and mystery!
Visit the room that once was the office of theater owner, Harry Nace. Learn his love of the theater and why he might still be making periodic visits to make sure things are running smoothly.
Go up to the balcony and hear stories of the ghosts who still enjoy a good play or musical in the theater. And whatever you do, take in the view. It is awe inspiring!
Wander down to the auditorium and see where many employees and guests have witnessed the mysterious ‘Maddie’. Why does she still hang around backstage and attend matinee and evening performances?
Take a peek at the stage and hear what happened during a sound check. Be sure and bring your camera because you might encounter the ghost cat. There are many great photo opportunities you will not want to miss.
Phoenix Ghost Tours have combined the history of the theater and reports of ghostly happenings to present the best information and factual tales to the guests. There will be five tours every evening. Each tour will be one hour long with four stops within the theater. There will be places to sit during two of the stops. The tour does involve going up and down a few shot flights of steps. Children are welcome; however, some of the stories on the tour are not intended for a younger audience.
Photography is extremely encouraged. And why not bring your EMF meters or voice recorders? You never know which “patron of the past” you may encounter. This is a great fundraiser event as the Friends of the Orpheum Theater continue to “try and keep life flowing in the theater.”
